I want to keep it mostly how it is. Just lower it a little, some motor work, gangster ass whitewalls. I’m happy I can take my kids and wife out and go get ice cream. It has the original 216 Motor, 3 on the tree, 6V system.

Looks very nice and solid.. Is that original paint?? If it is I'd wax the hell out of it and keep the original paint.. They're only original once....

  4. Looks like it's in great shape! Pics when you get it cleaned up!

That's how it starts... Next thing you know the car is spread out across the garage and living room. Great looking car...good luck with it.

  6. That is a great car, I personally would not make ANY plans to change anything. Just drive the living shit out of it and fix things when they break. Just my 2 cents , I’ve spent too many years when my kids were young ,in the garage working on my cars when I should have been spending that time with them . Mitch

Sweet! I'm a Ford man, but love those 37-41 Chevy's!

  9. Drive and tinker as you go. That way the whole family gets to enjoy. It looks like a good find.

Doesn’t have to be hot rodded to enjoy an oldie .

Yes, listen to everyone saying enjoy the car As is. Your kids will have great memories going for rides in the old car weather it's stock or lowered or hot rodded. Just enjoy the hell out of it.

Get it running, make it safe and clean it up, then enjoy it for awhile before you start changing things. You might change your mind on some of the 'upgrades'. Lol, or you might grenade it all over the garage and end up with a wild custom; but try it out as is first.

  20. Just drive it like it is. I just talked to a guy the other day that tore apart his 55 Chevy in 1978. He is just now getting it put back together.

I agree totally. Enjoy it with your family, especially when their young like that.
Look at the smiles on their faces. Little clean up projects when you have time
to yourself and want to do something, while still having the opportunity to dig
    what you've got.

    I love 40 Chevys I don't care if it's a coupe or sedan 2 or 4 door. Enjoy!

My kids are 6 and 8. We started out modifying their 1/24th scale metal cars and trucks. Now they want to come to the shop and build/modify stuff with me. Teaching your kids to work on/modify cars as a hobby is the only way this hobby continues. If you're working on your hot rod without your family, you're all missing out. Do what you want with that '40. Just include everyone!

TRADITIONAL HOT ROD LOOK!!!! Great pictures of kids. Yes, white wall (I recommend Diamond Backs) and lowered. I am going for this too. Need back seat for my grandchildren.

I've had 3- 40 Chevies in my 9 complete hot rods career. My 1st Sedan is STILL my favorite. You have a deluxe model, almost all of them have the independent front suspension. Good. They are rebuildable and parts are available. Best advice I would give is : Make sure the brakes are in good shape and it runs dependably well. Clean the car up to make it as good as you can and go enjoy it!! After a summer or so you'll decide what you want/need and go from there. Have fun!! Bill

  27. Cool.

Is the front bumper missing a filler panel? It's got quite the overbite.

  28. Foot pedal starter? Three on the tree?

Congratulation on finding a great car. 1940 Chevy was a classy new styling year they called "Royal Clipper" style. The bumpers and guards look like yours is a Master Deluxe Town Sedan. Our kids are now in their 40's and still talk about all the fun they had growing up with our old cars. Now the Grandkids are enjoying some of the same. You can now make lots of memories with that 40. Your kids are going to love it.
