    Ron,
Funny you posted and all the reply’s indicates that car guys can also be bird guys.

While not a full blown bird guy my wife likes birds so I pick up bird houses here and there. The yard had a piece of 1/2” black pipe so I added a flange and screw the houses on.

They get moved around over the years and around the yard.

Off the back porch. Birds in and out all day.

One of the retired houses along with one that was part of a tree.

Not a bird house, not a bat house. It’s a place where the wood bees go to and not drill holes in the Gazebo or the house.

Wood bees are a lot of fun. .22 pistol with bird shot right off the front porch. Just about the time you are ready to pull the trigger they zig or zag.

I used something like this as a guide,
    https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.wikihow.com/Build-a-Carpenter-Bee-Trap?amp=1

A hole up the center is about 3/4” diameter and a 1/2”hole on the 4 sides that go up at a 45 degree angle and intersect the center hole. Attach the bottle cap to the bottom with a hole in it too, attach the bottle and bam, wood bee trap.

Hope that helps you out. They ate up my shed behind my old house. We used to make a sport out of killing them with a tennis racket.

That's kind of like the fly trap the pig farmer up the road used to use. He put a dead fish in the jar. When it was full of maggots the jar when on the bonfire.

  10. Not a bird house in the normal sense but it is a house. It is my storm cellar was looking at doing some crack repair and my grandauther was going to paint. But now we wait. I think they are starlings.[IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

  11. I don’t think they are starlings. Starlings like cavities and the nest is too intricate. Interested in seeing the parents.

100 breeding pairs were imported and released into NYC in the 1880s. Some nutjob actually thought it would be a great idea to have examples of every bird species mentioned in Shakespeare's plays in Central Park. That's how they ended up here. Starlings soon spread across the US.

The nest looks like a barn swallow, they eat millions of bugs.

Def Barn Swallows. Neat lil birds. Enjoy having them in your yard!

  19. I do enjoy them, that project went on hold until they move out then my granddaughter wants the nest to stay and she will decorate around it. She is 26yo and is going to use it for a craft room. The only place I will let her put the rock tumbler. Lol

  20. I thought that also but the moss in the nest looks like Phoebe. Could be either one I guess. Damn, I’m definitely a bird nerd.

The barn swallows will follow me when I am mowing grass. They swoop close to my head while gathering bugs that the mower kicks up. My Baltimoron Orioles came back from vacation today for some oranges. Now how do I stop the wood pecker from beating on my house every morning except by blowing him up?

Might try some foil strips hung by their favorite hammering spot. Hang it loose enough that the wind will blow it around.

  26. Ok it's too fast for a pic but it looks like this one
Three of them ran into my granddaughter as she was walking across the yard

  28. When I started this thread I didn't know anything about birds. I just like building stuff, and the kids are always getting me car stuff. Sometimes it's a bird house. Here's one that's looks like an old gas pump. You guys are teaching me a lot about Birds. So I guess now I'm a real bird BRAIN! Lol Ron.... 20200510_123636.jpeg 20200510_134842.jpeg
