Cabin fever drove me to do it. Actually, my '55 F100 drove me to the Save Mart 5 miles away, to pick up some ESSENTIALS! That was the excuse, anyway. Ah, driving up 3rd St., 26" Glass Paks rumbling the notes of a 291* Cal Cam, fired by a blue Bosch 25KV coil, hooked to my vintage Mallory Y-L distributor. My ACCEL Super Coil had given up the ghost in late February, so from my stash of good German parts? Bonanza! A Blue Bosch w/bracket, same footprint as the ACCEL! A nice policeman pulled out in front of me, on my right side at the intersection before my 7th St. turnoff. He stopped, turned on the Light Show, got out, and walked to within 8 ft. of my cool F100. Thinking to make light of the situation, I put up my hand, and said "Stop...you're just outside of the 6 feet space." He didn't even smile...just asked in that ignorant monotone: "Are you enroute to an essential destination..." I thought it deserved a question mark, but decided not to push it. "Yes, Officer. Toilet paper is fine, but I'm nearly out of steak and down to my last lobster!" He half smiled, "You're going to the store?" "Yeah, we need that 2-week re-stocking, going to do it in light traffic..." "Carry on then, nice truck." (said with expression! I was impressed, and relieved...) I DID wait 'til he took off before re-firing the 'rumbler', however. That thing could incite...a virus!
Wow, nothing like that, that I have seen in town. I don't go in much, but haven't even noticed an OPD presence.

I'd like to think the Law Enforcement Officers in Kentucky have more important things to do then mindless ball breaking.
Yeah they've started the pull over and check your destination one county over from me. Not only are they pulling people over they are giving tickets. Cornwell tool guy said a mechanic showed him a 1200. Dollar ticket because he drove over to check on his parents. It's amazing how some of these states and counties are pushing to see just how much power and control the can get.
I drove the Ranch Wagon to the recycling center today, on the way I decided why no run out some of the cheap gas I bought last week, I drove past the center a mere 5 miles from my home to the one on the other side of town approximately 15 miles away, then I stopped by Wendy's for a frosty. I really enjoyed doing something that use to be normal. BTW, our local law enforcement,both the police and sheriffs departments have gone on record saying they have more than enough to keep them busy without worrying who should be out driving around and how shouldn't, the only reason they would stop anyone is if they are breaking the law. Taking mine out on Friday to honor health care workers. Mostly moms in SUV’s with little screaming kids, but what the heck, a drive is a drive. BTW, I really don’t like kid’s much......
They stopped you in Central CA? Here in Tulare Co. it almost seems business as usual. Other than everything being closed. I've been driving from Visalia to Hanford every day, cops don't look twice at you.
Unless there's been a flip/flop, I had heard our local police were suspending traffic stops for minor violations. I may have heard something about the police talking to a business or two about "unnecessary activity" as things tightened up, but I'm not sure if anybody got cited. 4 days ago, I took my one and only cruise in my '50 truck. I have a new gas level sender that I'm trying to figure out. It seems like it shows "Full' before it actually there and "Empty" before it actually is. So I get gas and it's a beautiful day so I head for the canyon to drive along the river. This is normally a tourist hot spot but it's a ghost town now with everything closed up tight. One particular beer/burger/innertube rental place has a barbeque deck on the river, just sitting there bare naked, and a small group of motorcyclists (less than 10) had commandeered it for their private party. We exchanged hoots and waves for each of us doing our thing and I headed for home.
Nothing like that going on down here. Heck, sometimes its hard to pull out into traffic because of all the "essential" workers and shoppers going places. I have actually seen fewer cops than usual. Thank God my area was not hit very hard by the virus.
Once got pulled over about 2 in the morning, cop ask me if I was drinking, I asked him "why you buying?"
The Amarillo police have said they would not be stopping folks just to check on what they're doing, but the subject may come up if they have engaged you for other reasons. Speaking of police, are the donut shops open?
I'd have to think that you would To actually be cruising up and down the same street or area here to get stopped. Still a list of "essential" items aka shopping list on the seat beside you. I had to run over to my mom's tonight to check on here because my brother couldn't get her on the phone and was in a panic. She had fallen asleep in the chair and the dogs must have been outside because one barks at the phone when it rings. At 93 it takes her a minute or two to get her bearings when she wakes up. My adult kids check on my wife and I every so often and I wouldn't want to be the cop that stopped my daughter and told her she wasn't going to go check on her parents. I sure wouldn't want to be him when her lawyer got done with him. The cops here are too busy with real issues to worry where someone is driving. Sunday it was drunks fighting in the middle of the street over a can of beer when I went to town. I live a couple of miles outside of a small town though.
I am glad I live in the middle of nowhere, Wyoming. I have a doctor appointment next month in Idaho, I'm wondering if I'll get stopped at the state line there, but that's 4 weeks away. I have heard that Utah has restrictions going in, but I did get body shop supplies delivered from Ogden Auto Color up here last week.
I was stopped by a RIDE check just before Christmas a couple of years ago, the cop came over to the window of my school bus, laughing asking me if I have had a drink. I told him if he had to drive these kids around he'd drink too. Phil
Friday I was helping giving out face masks for people in need. An older lady called me and asked if I could bring her a few to her house because she could not and should not get out. So I put a few to the side for her and drove by her house on my way back. I was driving my 55 Chevy and pulling into her neighborhood I saw two young cops in their early 20s parked at the curb and leaning against their old police cruiser having ice cream. I mean, most cruisers here are late models, maybe 5 years old but they had an old ´96ish Beamer, not silver-blue like the new cruisers, but the oldstyle white-green . I had to chuckle a bit because I really like the oldfashioned police cruisers better than the new ones but these guys were probably younger than their car. I waved at them and smiled and went on to do my delivery. On the way back they waved me down, smiled and hollered: " Hey, you have a nice old car!" Me: " You too!" We continued on to chat a bit and had a good time bench racing...
I was given a letter from work that states the patriot act of 2001 I have permission to be on the road because I am an expendable, I mean essential employee. but I have pass a few police with my other vehicles and haven't had a problem. I have heard since that if you have instate plates and are alone or 1 other person with you and are behaving they are not stopping you to check where you are going. they are busy with crashing events and business that refuse to close that are deemed nonessential. they just busted a bar for the third time and a gym once not far from me. each ticket is a $500 fine and possibly 30 days in jail for the bar owner for being a repeat offender. no tickets to the individual people using the establishment but to the business themselves get the ticket. Heard on the scanner that a church was reported easter morning too but never heard the outcome on that one. another one heard on the scanner was a backyard event was called in that had more than the allowed people at. they are patrolling campgrounds around here and ticketing out of state people and I heard it starts at $250 for them. they are also watching grocery stores for out of state plates and ticketing them too. We have a safer at home order here but allowed to go to the store for food and they say the stores here are for residential people only and not travelers which are not allowed here at this time. doesn't matter if you have a second home here, family, etc. , you are not welcome at this time. you can use the freeway to pass thru but don't stop any place that doesn't sell gas and you better be buying gas close to off/on ramp. Of course semis and delivery type trucks are exempt from instate plates only rule going on at this time. they even closed the parks because people wouldn't avoid hanging out in a group. they even have a burning ban in my township because that is how most fires get started and they wanted to help protect the firemen as much as possible. that got a lot of backlash so after 2 weeks they still ban brush and trash burning but allowed backyard firepit if you have less than 6 people at it. but if you are a residence and want to take a drive in your old car just to get out alone or with your spouse that seems to be fine just don't have a meet up with a group of people someplace.
Check your local statues, or check with your lawyer (you do have a lawyer right?) It is legal for the police to ask you anything they want, but it is not mandatory for you to answer the question. If they pull you over they have to have witnessed you commit a crime (moving violation or registration/inspection violation) You are not required to answer questions about your destination or what you are doing, as soon as you start answering questions you have begun giving up your rights. You are required to give them proof off registration and insurance and your drivers licence to show you are legal to be in the road. I am not saying anyone should be a rude about it or even refuse to answer the questions, do what you feel is best for you. But everyone should know their rights and not feel scared to exercise them. You have it ruff up North. We of the city of "Angels" went about driving with out a problem last Sunday along PCH. Except for that one lamb at the back of the flock. He got a ticket for painting his white plates black.
Atwater is a small town, mostly 'conservative'. My F100 is 'popular', because I drive it all the time. (actually, I haven't been 'out' other than a few times in the last month! Unusual for me.) I didn't recognize the cop, but have probably met him with other police officers before. They have a 'presence' around our Walmart/Target stores, what with the canned goods donations, and other local events. I have a long white beard now, kinda 'Santa-ish', not the more 'sinister' look. I really think the cop was just curious, as the truck looks like a 'pleasure vehicle', rather than a daily driver? Maybe ol' Santa was out for a destinationless joy ride? But it was cool, (and I'm generally a 'wiseass') so played some verbal ping pong with the local constabulary. But any time they light up the 'heat lamps' I get nervous. In my youth, I had the look of a 'Hot rodder/biker/cool dude/needs a haircut/'fancier than square' type. I was a cop magnet... I'm the same human being, but with mileage. So, I tend to remember that old feeling: "Who, me???"
There is good news though, the Chocolate Ration has been increased from 20 grams a day to 80 grams a week. Fuckin' A!

Ya. I got pulled over just out side of pd station site. Motor cop and I thought wt? Typical sun glass no grin look. Then when he got to my passenger window he pulled his shades off and asked me what mufflers I was running. Pausing to answer he then say's it sounds good I want my car to sound like this.
My gf works in the next county too, she had to get a paper from work and carry it with her. When they passed out these "essential " papers she was told that the county and city made it clear that if she got pulled over, without that paper she would receive a ticket. They are watching for the county stickers on the plates. She picked a cop only once a couple blocks from work, he followed her until she pulled into work and she got out of the car wearing her company smock, then he drove on. Counties and cities losing revenue and looking for ways to replace that money. Welcome to 1939 Europe...
