If you see a treadmill that someone has set out at the curb for the salvage guys, grab it. Usually the DC motor is pretty powerful, and the speed controller may still work. Ideal for a variable speed bead roller or drill press. A simple DPDT switch between the speed controller and the motor makes it reversible as well. You'll have to build a speed reduction setup for using one on the bead roller, but most of us have chain and sprockets laying around, don't we?

Bought an Eastwood version (almost the same as HF) $150 delivered in '14
Did extensive mods to it. Adapted a HF winch motor/gearbox to it. Built a foot control using the winch pendant. Works good.
Only thing more it could use would be variable speed.

Yes, I see them listed all the time. Keep your eyes open when you drive around neighborhoods.

Sure :) people throw lots of stuff away. When they are done using it for a clothesline they want their space back. Free to check .

In Corvallis, people put stuff out to the curb and run an ad on CL all the time. Bet Eugene does as well .

  13. At one time there was a huge thread on bead rollers and how they were reinforced and some really unique work being done with them. HRP
