History 64/65 Comets old drag cars lets see pictures

loveoftiki. I lived in Mt.Clemens and bought most of my parts Gratiot auto parts.
I street raced around Marine City and New Baltimore.
The only real identifying thing it had was an NHRA car in tow sticker on the back window and some tow bar brackets on the front .

 

Ahhh an East Sider...That’s cool ya ran down to Detroit when Motor City was in your backyard...did the racers back than mix it up and hit both tracks? I remember buying parts at Gratiot myself..used to go the one on Woodward..I’m assuming you cruised Gratiot? Great times for you I’m sure

 

I got a $750 drag racing ticket from racing on 9 mile and Gratiot. That's a lot of money now and back then it was devastating .
I did go to Detroit Dragway every once in a while. just too hard to drive and flat tow all the way across Detroit to race when Motor City was 20 minutes away.

THis wasn't 64/65's but an allied topic. I was at York US30 Dragway (Pennsylvania) when the original Logghe Comets showed up, I believe it was Nicholson and Schartman. One of the things I haven't seen here or on HAMB was the Mercury station wagon tow cars. I think it was Schartman's car I looked at..it had bucket seats in the front and a whole lot of other non--station wagon stuff inside. Anybody else ever see these cars? A special order for Mercury "team" cars?
