Those with curved blades are supposed to be quieter than the ones with straight blades. I have a SPAL 16 inch straight blade in a fenderless car. It’s moves a lot of air and sounds like it. Definitely don’t put one in without a fan shroud of some sort - greatly increases cooling.
Actually, the quietest electric fan is a broken one. My suggestion would be to get the best fan available, and don't use the temp sensor, just use a simple on/off switch. When the car's off, shut the fan off. With the motor running, the fan shouldn't be heard. Don't be tied to a mechanical because it's 'traditional'. If the traditional police give you shit, just mention 5speeds and disc brakes.
why need to go to an electric fan? - not against them on rides clearance problems, etc - 50's truck should have room to install a multi blade clutch fan and shroud to provide plenty of cooling if rest of cooling system in good condition
The problem I think here is your engines are too quiet if you are complaining about the fan noise. Add a blower and a quick change rear end and put the top down. At speed, I couldn't hear a dump truck driving thorough a nitro glycerin factory.
If you want a quiet, good quality electric fan, go to the junk yard and pull one off a modern car. Car manufacturers spend millions on keeping noise down, and the fans has to do the job well too and last many years. An aftermarket fan may work well too, but it's very unlikely it has seen anywhere near the amount of development a "original" car fan has.
I agree on a junkyard fan. Some are more popular that others, or find one that fits and get a new one, they are amazingly cheap. I have a Spal 16" that comes on when it gets hot, I got it on eBay with the installation kit. Of course everything I touch needs to be machined in some aspect. I went overboard with some of the mounting but it was worth it.
The junk yard dual fan installed on my 63 Chevy 2 door post car. This car cannot be overheated. It fits the stock radiator like it was made for it.
Losing the mechanical is worth power, 15-30 hp depending on how fast your motor spins, Junkyard fans can be great!

I have 1.5" of clearence.i dont want to move radiator i dont like the idea of a electric fan but thats what will work.The rafiator is 16" wide ,so i was figuring a 14" fan so it fits within the edge of radiator core..pusher of course..so straight blade moves more air than the other.. .
That is the kewl stuff. Hell man everyone knows that. For the 6 cylinder the fan off of the little ford like an escort will probably do the job just fine. Those are the fans that we used to use, cheap, reliable and oved enough air.
Always heard that pulling the air through with an electric fan, is a lot more efficient than pushing it through...
