Cool. Right after the crashed roadster the guy flags six cars.....then there are only 5 racing.

Sixth car ran out of gas. Cops busted him while pushing the car.

I tried to explain Speedweek to my wife . I was telling her about the old cars driving out to the salt and just driving around. I showed her the first 5 minutes of this film " that's what it's like" I think she gets why I'm a little obsessed.
    Thanks for the BUZZ!

I saw six, then five..... same footage as “Devil on Wheels”. Thx 4 making my morning, I watched them both-Always dig the cars specially The “OUTRIDERS”plaque mounted to the back of that “Hen House Deuce”.
Watched “American Graffiti” yesterday for some old fashioned Hot Rod Vibes. The California Kid”
the week before. Lent out both to a pal so he could get his Hot Rod Fix.

  16. Yes I had caught it a long time ago along with Hot Rod Girl....not sure if that's what got me gathering parts for a roadster build in the early 80's but I was already a convertible guy as well. They were on VHS tapes that most likely I bought at the swap meet from the guy that sells good old magazines/books/tapes which I believe is were I got some of the old Tex Smith reading material. Thanks for posting.....the tapes are not playable of course.

  17. Here's an article written by Jimmy Lydon, the star of the movie "Hot Rod". I assume it was in a magazine right after the movie was released.

I think this movie should be required watching as part of the Rules and Guidelines...Thanks for sharing...it certainly has some of the most incredible footage with incredible clarity to boot...

I enjoyed that as I hadn't seen it before. Also noted David's roadster had a column shift! I had been thinking about that for my '32 4dr hot rod project.

I'm not sure about the accuracy of the film, I didn't see any flames or small block chevys?

At 28:00 to 29:00 big brother (Myron Healy) advises young rod jockey (Jimmy Lydon) that "You might be able to put that over on the old man, but I know a high compression engine when I hear one!"

Always liked Myron in the westerns...when he scowled, he showed his bottom teeth...(just like my uncle Loren!)

In the great productions at Boyd Studios, you could see that Boyd watched this movie, recall the moment that Jimmy has 'Woozy' hit the starter...No fire. "Forgot to put the rotor in?"
I watched Boyd sit in the newly finished roadster, drama rose when going to start the engine at the end of the show...engine cranked, no fire.
Suddenly, Boyd questions a less than stalwart employee: "Did you put the rotor in???"
    Laughable.
