I'm trying to justify travelling 1300 miles round trip to look at a custom 1955 Chevy. It is now a 2-dr. Was a four door sedan/post. It has been sectioned, shortened, and then wheel base extended. Has a 350 eng, TH350, frwy gears, PDB, nice paint, etc. I have to make the $$$ offer. Do you think it is worth more or less than a 55 Chevy 2-dr post with the same equipment and paint. I like the sports car look of it. I've owned three daily driver tri-fives. Enjoy the pix. Thanks

Never liked them. If someone did a corrective chop so roof looked better maybe.

  3. Thats an odd bird.Wheelbase looks funky to me. I think it would be worth considerably less than a 2 door post that did not have those modifications.

I can't answer your question all I can say is, that is some amount of body work and quite a job at that from the looks of it. Good Luck.

  5. So...they shortened it...and THEN lengthened it again? Way to plan things out ahead of time.

I have seen more door tri-five wagons cut down by removing the rear door section. Never a sedan. It's not something I would want, but I hope you enjoy it if you buy it.

I don't want to hurt your feelings but I wouldn't walk across the street to look at one of those done that way. But that's just me.

I suspect the value is low. Get a real 55

Never understood why someone would screw up an otherwise good looking car. If you wind up buying it plan on keeping it the rest of your life. You can't give garbage like that away. It proves that drugs and car building just don't go together.

someone who has no idea about proper proportions went to a LOT of trouble on that car, and really screwed it up. I love customs, but that thing is bad, I'm sorry but the truth hurts

  16. To be totally honest it's not worth a third of what a 2 door is worth, IMHO it's fugly. HRP

I would not drive 1300 miles to look at it, the photos are enough for me. A good illustration of “just because you can do it does not mean that you should”.

  18. Only because you asked..worth a fraction of the price of an authentic 2 dr post.
Personally, whatever the price is, it's too high.

    @Cerberus

It looks better than I expected it to when reading the description in your post. However, it does have some eye offending proportions....the wheels look too big for the height of the body and/or it sets too high. The rear quarters appear to have the wheel openings moved rearward (wheelbase stretch ?) which helped the middle body proportions, but that left the remainder of the quarter panel looking too short at the back. The roof and side glass look pretty good and the workmanship, as best can be told from photos, looks good.

Overall, I think you should do what YOU feel you want to do. No one here has any investment in this matter, only you. But, I also do think the posts that predict some degree of difficulty selling it when you are ready are worth considering. There is an a$$ for every seat at the right price and with patience.

Some posts seem unduly harsh, which is commonplace these days where people will say things with their keyboard they would not say to a person’s face. Too bad we don’t make a better effort to resist the coarsening of our society.

    Best wishes with your decision.

    Ray

Because the top is to high and makes the entire car look out of proportion.

Worth buying if your goal is to drive in parades.

A four door would be more desirable

  22. I would definitely avoid that car. It takes a very special buyer. If you bought it, it would be very difficult to sell.

In other words, the market for that would be quite small considering the number of '55s available.

Yes, it also isn't the prettiest girl at the prom either.

I like it, hard to say value....

  27. No way that thing is worth anywhere near what a regular 2 door sedan would be. The proportions are terrible looking. Even if you like it, can you imagine trying to find somebody to sell it to when you've gotten tired of it?
