From that time when hot rodders were morphing into sports cars and road racing. Probably cut the doors down to be able to use that big steering wheel in the turns, not an issue in drags or dry lakes. Make it look like the MGs and TRs of the day. Americans just had to add cubic inches to everything.

 

What's that?

 

I especially like the fact it looks to be a inline 6 or 8...and that swoopy cut was also popular in Jalopy Racing as well...that sure was a finely finished Motorized work of Art and of course a Hotrod.

I am grateful that it was captured by a Photographer as I can now remember this talented Hottrodder for what he and perhaps others did not so long ago...and thank them all for their efforts...I have an unfortunate feeling the Hotrod has been long lost through the movement of time and even attitudes...it is many times anything but kind to the expressions of others...

 

It refers to a style which like most of this North American movement in Hotrod had regional connections and it was celebrated in a revered book...but here is an opener to that reference at the Link below and I might add a large number of the rides celebrated in this Thread have connection to this region albeit I do not discriminate in my selections...

Pretty sure it's a GMC 6. Likely 248 0r 270 but maybe this was late enough for a 302. No matter it would out pull anything coming out of the UK at the time if you could just get it around the corners. Any GMC or Chevy six that could honestly run a 3 carb set up was a beast. I'd like to see a picture of the other side of the engine interesting breathers on the valve cover.

More reversed 15" Ford steel wheels. I had the same thing on the back of my '38 Ford coupe. 8.20 Bruce slicks From Vic Hubbard in Hayward CA.

 

Cool car, but I don't care for the red.

 

In the 50s someone in our town ( Canyon, Texas) had a Messerschmitt. What a weird little car. I bet this one is faster. Looks like VW front axle.

 

...Not Unusual around here at the Hamb that information surfaces to verify questions where there are many times no answers...In the case of the above it was uncovered years ago by Hamber @redranch who did a Thread on it looking for details and he found some...it got ink in the early 60s...anyways the Link to his Thread in below should you be interested...

I just wish it still existed...it's been posted here several times...mostly in b & w...as alluded it must have been a hairy ride...heck maybe it's in a museum and I'm mistaken.

With my limited knowledge after following the cowl steering Thread the Steering geometry I see is debatable but the overall Hotrod is quite nicely executed and right up Hamb Alley...so rather than criticize, I will say I like it a lot...and give Credit to the Owner/Builder

The steering looks OK to me except it is backwards from every steering box I own. In order to keep the drag link close to level the pitman arm has been turned upside down. A simple solution except it makes it all work backwards. It could be a Vega box that is commonly made to go the other direction. Maybe it is an anti-theft device and the car steers to the right when you turn left. Maybe boxes from across the ocean or from the Southern Hemisphere turn the other way . This is an issue I am trying to deal with on my roadster. I'll have to wait and see where the drag link ends up.

I have some shots of it before it was sold - just got to find them

This is the perfect Thread for it......but way up theres were a look back in the day...there are other examples within the pages here...

I have a 29 and wonder how those stay stable as that shell is anything but solid...Perhaps a internal framework behind...

 

I saw the black Chevy coupe at Billitproof several years ago. Very well built and that Jimmy six sounds great!
