Thanx for this wonderful tour of this classic build. I love this excellent custom. All the electronic gear was a super reflection of this mans' talent.

Definitely one of my favorite customs. The fact you have so much documentation on the various build stages is incredible. Thanks for sharing.

  6. This car has always be a beauty. Seeing the few pics of the car with the side trim and really nothing else was neat. That version was a super nice mild custom that really set the car off without much crazy bodywork.

Thanks for the ride along! Having the backstory on a car you possess, must be a good feeling indeed. Do you have historical pictures of your green one, as well? I have never even been able to find the original owner/builders name on my 3W , much less any original pic's of her.

It was upholstered by Bryan Ellis. He did a wonderful job. the car still has its original (1961) upholstery and it still looks great

yes, I am lucky enough to be the current owner. I bought it from Pauls widow back in 07. but that is jumping to the end of the story. there are a lot more pictures to come before we get there!!

all I have on the Astorian is some magazine articles and a few photos I bought from Jerry Eich. (he has thousands and thousands of car show photos that he took in the 60's)

When Paul changed the car he added a 59 364 nailhead Buick engine. It is adapted to the 55 3 speed overdrive transmission.

Very cool to see and hear about the transition of a regular car into a full custom. Thanks!

It’s great that he took a lot of photos, probably on of the best documented customs.

So rare to have the history of any car from when it was new until now. Thanks for sharing the photos, Mark. It couldn't be in better hands.

Thru the back window shot of the dashboard. You can see the tv antenna mounted just outside of the rear window

Detail shot of the engine showing the solenoid used to apply the throttle for remote control starting. Also note the flex radiator hose
