Yesterday I posted some early (1959) pics of the 55 on @Roothawg post about period correct customs. I realized that I had all these photos and info on the car and should start a thread and show the different versions and how it evolved in the early years.

Paul was one of the founding members of the Road Knights car club of Davenport Washington with their first meeting being held in Jan 1955.

Paul purchased a 55 chev hardtop from Appleway motors in Spokane, this was in 1956 paul551.jpg

paul554.jpg paul555.jpg Paul started customizing the car right away, here you can see that it is nosed and has shaved door handles

Thanks Mark, this is the history that I like. Following along with the changes with the when and why is very interesting. What were the popular modifications of the times. That’s what this hobby teaches me, still learning.

The in-progress shots are great. Back in the days of film cameras, how many builders had someone take their pictures as they were working on the cars? Apart from posed magazine coverage of big-name shops, I would think very few. Those are priceless.

Paul wanted to compete in the 1962 Seattle worlds fair custom auto show so he tore the car down in 61 for a complete redo

  21. Great pics Mark ,
I hated it to start with,,,,,the 55 lines were so nice to begin with .
After he painted it white and did so much more,,,then I thought it looked really cool .
    Very talented guy !

Finished car parked in front of Paul’s workplace xerox. The blue metal flake paint was done by none other than Ray Wilson
