looks like a "C" crank flange without weld reinforcement.
Hope it didn't do much more damage

You are right on again....only damage was to the crank...the engine just wouldn't hook to the drivetrain...the engine was still running after it broke is the story I got

 

Glad to hear it is only the crank, should be fairly easy to fix
Had one just shake the flywheel loose, no wire, backed off and disengaged the clutch
As you can imagine just tore up the flywheel and crank flange.

Yup! Just about every time I broke a "Banger" crank, the engine ran on! Due to the incumbent harmonic of a four cylinder inline ( particularly a long stroke, three main) crank; that crank WILL weaken. Virtually all breaks will occur at or near the rear main (including the flange). I first tried a Harmonic Damper on the nose of the crank (a Scat). Worked for awhile longer than others; but it broke. About 15 years ago I put to use a Crower 5 main crank. I understand that it had been ground out of a solid forging. Putting five mains in a Model B block is "No Mean Feat"; but with a talented machinist it can be done. I kept a Harmonic Damper on my new crank (just in case)! For those of you that run your Model A/B at 2500 rpm (no greater than 3000); I don't think you should worry much. However, a Harmonic Damper WOULD help. I've heard studies showing that twisting harmonics develop on our engine's cranks (depending on the particular piece of steel) between 3000 and 4000 rpm. The cranks I'd broken all seemed to come apart when I'd run the engine well above the 4000 mark; and had been coming down though the 3000 to 4000 rpm range!

 

I installed an exhaust cutout and used Model A brake linkage and a cut down Model A brake cross shaft to make a floor mounted operation lever..

 

Avatar was 20 years old, so I updated it with photos that show the Moon discs with Dzus fasteners. Still need to iron out some bugs and install a new quick disconnect steering wheel hub

 

Yep, the handiest tool box I have ever bought. Picked it up at auction and it was a PAPE unit, Forestry out of Washington state. Was used pretty hard....looks like you keep yours much nicer

That's what I like about rail,no off roading,no mud..dont get me wrong,I worked the woods some its makes for a nice view from the office..but yeah,they are like a pocket on a shirt..handy as hell..

 

im noticing lack of radiator support rods (fire wall to radiator)

 

Yes no radiator supports yet...I’m not happy with the 30/31 radiator... the radiator is 2 1/2 inches higher than the cowl...it’s the only thing I don’t like about my rpu...I used a 30/31 chassis because it’s what I had at the time...I’ve got a running 28/29 chassis now I’m gonna put the body on that chassis in the next week or so...the shorter radiator should line up a little better with my T cowl....I’ll get supports and figure out a hood when I get it swapped...I took it for a spin through town yesterday and I will again this afternoon....it’s 75 and sunny here in NC today....

 

just a comment . you can have the '31 radiator cut down . and you can cut the shell to fit

its all in your taste , but sure you will do good

Shame you aint closer,id swap you a good 28/29 for that 30/31..got a slug of them..

 

Well, guess I missed my date with Bob. But better late than never? So, who wants to here a bad joke with a worse punch line? Sepsis. Sorta had a reason to be laid up. Then I dropped my radiator and bent in significantly. Sad. What to do? Reboot! 93” WB , 7” engine set back. Drop is mocked up, need to make some plating and gussets.
