Hot Rods Just How Many Sets of Wheels and Tires Do You OWN?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by lothiandon1940, Nov 30, 2019.

  1. Just what I have on the car plus the spare. I have a set of '59 Ford stock wheels in great condition, no tires. Probably have a couple of Vette wheels left over from the stock car days.

  2. I think I got the wheels and tires on the Crosley (the rears were spare for a long time) and one extra set of wheels which includes my Ansens.

You guys with the wheels. Where do you find the room to stash them? I find they take up way too much space.

Couple of pretty rare M/T Super Stock Dragster tires I carry around in the trunk of my 62 bel Air post body street car (just for looks at cruise-ins, they're old)
I mounted them with the double whitewall/red pin stripe inside because I'm not a whitewall guy. (to each their own on that)

  13. Other than the wheels that are on my vehicles I probably have about 30 factory steel wheels from various Fords and Chevys. I need to load them on a trailer and take them to a swap meet if we ever start having them again.:(

  15. I’m honestly not sure, but it was enough that my son decided we needed a rack for the wall to hold them all. Maybe I can report back once I get it mounted and the ones scattered all over in one place on my new 10’ wide two story rack. :D

Pics from him test fitting stuff at vo-tech.

I've got a couple sets of wheels/tires for my sedan, and even another set I could borrow if the mood strikes.

For other odd ones around the place, I've probably got over 100 wheels, and a dozen old tires or more. Most of the wheels are early Ford steelies and wires, some Kelsey-Hayes and Motor Wheels bent spoke wires, Halibrand smoothies and small windows and a 1970 Indy car competitor's wheel, and American magnesium five-spokes. For old tires I have some NOS Goodyear dirt trackers, some old Goodyear ribbed fronts, and some old Firestone ribbed fronts.

    One of many stacks.

    Never enough!

I have a complete set of mounted stockers for my 56 with Diamond Back wide whites.
For my LSR roadster I have 6 sets of different diameters (26”-32”) on 15, 16, and 18” rims plus 2 new MT rears and 2 new M&H fronts in sealed bags. You can never have too many LSR tires.
My trailer has 2 spares mounted inside for every trip.

  20. I have lots, and am looking for more. I have liked steel and ralley wheels all my life. My first purchase was a pair and an extra mopar cop wheels. Just sold a set of 1946 one ton ford 17 inch split rim 6FADA3FE-B3D2-4A6F-B1FB-F89CB880620C.jpeg wheels to a guy to help with a restoration, might have a new friend for life. He let me keep the hubcaps. Wheels make good wall art until I can replace them with 32 grille shells.

  21. 20 or 30 sets I reckon. Got a old mobile home full of them....well half way...the other half is fenders and body parts.

I used to have extra rear tire/wheel setups for occasional trips to the drags. Also had some misc. tire/wheels that were leftover when I switched to something different. But after years of having those wheels and tires stacked up and taking up precious space, I got rid of as much as I felt I could live without.
I think we tend to hoard this kind of stuff, and eventually it becomes a collection that you look at for fun, or show to friends who ask if you want to sell any? If they don't get used on one of my rides now, they don't get saved anymore.

  23. Just the wheels/tires on the car and a pair of 14X6 fake americans with tires. They were on the front of my coupe 34_10_1_repairs.jpg but I replaced 'em with a pair of 15X4 ETs and stashed the 14s on top of my tool box.

  24. Let's see......*?** o_O
I have a 3-car garage and all the bays are full.
    2 are Mr and Mrs dailies, so 4 + a spare = 5 x 2 cars = 10. The '50 Chevy has 4, no spare. Carry the 10 + the 4 = 14.
So 14 total, divided by a set of 4 = 3.5........ 'round that off to 3 sets. Yea, I'm going with 3 sets.

When I joined this forum, nobody told me that there was going to be any maths.

I've a set of international slot mags new in box from 1970, a set of crager ss for my Henry J, a set of stickers for my ElCamino, and assorted rollers. As I get closer to retirement, I realize the extras will need to go. Safe to say I've had dozens of sets over the years, but have finally gotten to the point where I know what I want

Man I have too much crap as is. If I had multiple wheels and tires for all the crap I'd be in trouble, lol.

I did sell an old set of kelsey slots bitd I wish I'd have kept tho.
