I can’t ID the 275 car but from the looks of the pipes I’d say it’s running a straight 8 Buick.
The twin belly tank car is Howard Johansen’s, running a flathead V8.

    #4 D Streamliner...

Edit per 296Ardun - I think that this is Harold Post's streamliner, from Orange CA or nearby. It once ran Doug Hartlet's Chrysler.

#283 D coupe...Burke LeSage had a horrific accident at El Mirage driving someone else's 38 Buick. Could this be it?

"Two other fellows, Roger and Walt were into hopping up Buick's. They had a supercharged Buick V8 in a 1938 Buick Coupe. In August on the Salt it had run a sluggish 135mph. At El Mirage it became an ill-handling brute, both owners wanted another opinion. I accepted the challenge. According to Timing Stand reports the big coupe on the course was stirring up a lot of dust, and just before the Timing-traps, there was a sudden twist off course with a series of violent tumbles. There was no roll-bar, but I had a war-surplus safety belt that failed immediately, and the spill left me in a crumpled mess and out cold. The George Air Force base medical office in Victorville, California and the local hospital reported that the injury was too severe for their personnel, so the ambulance transported me to the Los Angeles area, where I awoke ten days later from my coma. It took me a couple of weeks before I regained normalcy, coordination and health." - from 2009 interview with LeSage.

More from Jim's wall of photos. Could this be the remains of the 38 Buick I mentioned back a couple posts?

Chet Herbert's "The Beast" at Bonneville. I've read about earlier versions, but version 5?

You ought to hear them whine now when the generator runs out of fuel and the AC quits.

I am around, thanks for asking...I'm thinking these photos might be around '51, but I'm not sure.I first met Burke LeSage when he still had to coupe, then painted red with a 354" Chrysler, at San Gabriel. That was around '58. These are incredible photos and stories, thanks so much for posting!

I'm thinking Pomona early, maybe around '52. I don't recall Saugus having powerlines next to it, but Pomona did, as they ran down the adjacent street (now Parker Avenue).

Howard Johansen's experiment with twin tanks, driver in one, Desoto engine in the other...it didn't handle well so ultimately Howard abandoned it.

1953...Jim teams up with A.J. Michele, the spectator from 52 who lent Jim the Hemi out of his New Yorker. Jim had a Hemi, and AJ had a Hemi, so they decided to build a car using both engines. Here's the chassis as it was being built.

Sam & George Barris did a lot of the body work. AJ and other friends helped with the build. An article from the January 1954 HRM details the creation of the car, and describes the action and results of it's first run at the 53 Bonneville Nationals.

More specs on the car......someone put this together long after the build and was in the collection of material I scanned. Also documentation on the Hilborn injection used.

Anybody else liking this stuff? It's been pretty quiet on the comments and input into what some of these pictures are. All comments are welcome and helpful.

The Cal-Loui results 1953 - I read conflicting information from different sources, but the Jan 54 HRM article says he ran with only one engine working, for the E modified roadster class record of 154.82. One of the runs was 167.95. Not only did they get a record, the team was awarded the Tooele County Chamber of Commerce Award, given to the team with the best looking and engineered car. Here is Jim's race pass, and he has written on the back the details of the award received.
