Technical So let's discuss Stromberg 97's and associated parts

    First, let me preface this with, I am not a carb guy. Wanna talk Hilborn fuel injection, I'm all about that.

    So, I have a little 29 Model A roadster with a 265 and a 3x2 with 3 Strombergs. The previous owner only had the center carb hooked up. I found the linkage under the seat for the other 2. So basically it's a 2 barrel.

    The problem: It pukes all over itself occasionally. Like out of the top, around the accelerator pump rod etc. The car has a really small 12V elec. pump and one of the Mr Gasket regulators. I figure the float is hanging and allowing it to overfill.

    The questions:
    1. Who sells the best/most complete overhaul kit for a 97?
    2. Who sells the most accurate low pressure regulator 5 lbs. and under?

    I would like to get this thing running right, but I only wanna do it once.

    I use ONLY a vein type pump. If its a pulsating pump it will push past the needle and seat. I also set the fuel regulator at 2-3 PSI

    Holley 12-804 is the regulator we use for low pressure applications Root.

    Holley 12-804 regulator. 1-4 psi. Personally, I avoid the round dial types.

    Buy one of the Holley regulators. They come in a higher pressure version and one that regulates from 1 to 4 pounds. And buy a low pressure gauge from Dickster here in the HAMB classifieds. Then set them to 2 pounds MAX.

    And, any Stromberg parts or service you need can be obtained from our own Uncle Max. He's the absolute best.

    Dont buy the round Holley. Its just a restrictor and my engine was starving at 90

    Dickster here in the Hamb will provide you good rebuild parts.
    Residual electric pump pressure after the engine is shut off will cause Stromberg leakage also. A solution would be to install a separate switch for the pump and turn it off before the ignition.

    It does it going down the road. I can always tell. It smells like raw fuel and then I can look over the windshield and watch it geyser. The round Mr. Gasket regulator worked great for a while.

    Blue, that's a sanitary looking installation. Is that regulator aluminum? If it is I think I'd be inclined to scratch the Edmunds logo into it and give it a buffing. Help hide the newness.

    Thanks, I welded a mount for it to the edge of the crank case draft hole block off plate.

    It is aluminum and I had considered taking it apart and blasting it for black paint but never got there.
    I may in the future but I think it looks okay down low on the side of the engine.

    And it works great at 1.5 psi.

    Oh, they are spendy though. I could buy six of the good Holley regulators for that price.

    I just run the stock flathead pump, works great.

    On another note, what can I use to get a nice looking finish, without resorting to paint.

    I can't on a SBC. I mean I guess I could, but it may take some ciphering. :cool:

    I did some troubleshooting tonight. When it would start loading up, I would turn the pump off to see if it would clean up and it did. So the carb may just need a new pressure regulator first, then worry about the overhaul later.
