doesn't look stretched like most dropped ones do. But then there are many, many books written and full careers built on what I don't know about Phord stuff!!
Been trying to locate a source in the Pacific Northwest, preferably Eastern WA. for having Ford Axles dropped. Does anyone know of a good source in my region?
I do like it done well, smooth an even, but really don't care for thinned out or too much. Frankly don't think its needed, rods can be just as low with out it,if engineered right. I used a 48 axle back in the late 1950s on my 28 A,had spring in front=I moved cross forword,an built custom lower arch spring as well. 48 ford axle has a built by factory drop of about 3in. that I like.
I found a 48 axle locally and everyone I've talked to here says they just don't look right because of the front spring thing. Looking at your car, I think that's a great look and it would work on my '27 T roadster. I like what you did in 1959 and I'm glad you're still driving the car.
Over the years, I've missed seeing this thread but it was brought to my attention, last night, as we're looking for some ideas for shock mounts. I was going to wait for my @thunderbirdesq dropped 32 axle to be reinstalled but knowing me, I'd forget. Andy dropped and squeezed it to bring the wheels in. It's dropped 2" over stock. I can't remember who dropped the 33-36 that's being used as a mock-up.
Great thread. I just scrolled through most of it again. When I moved to my current home I scrapped my crude ghetto axle dropping jig. It worked well once I figured out some camber problems I had. Now I'm thinking of putting a dropped axle under my coupe so I gotta decide if I want to build another jig or have one dropped. I dunno time will tell. Couple pics of the old jig
has anyone made a fixture to bend steering arms? would it be possible for you to bend the steering arms on some of those deep drop chassis engineering steering arms , they are forged in the bent position, need the arm part mirrored to the other side on both , so they become rhd they don't look like they have to go over much. PLEASE, the full set of forgeness
Years ago I added some drop to the CE deep drop arms to get them under 32 bones. I was careful not to screw up the geometry and they worked good.
Anyone out there with a dropped Anglia axle? I need a really narrow dropped axle for my Austin Ruby about 40" between the kingpin centers.
I have also fine tuned the drop on aftermarket forged arms a few times, lots of miles on the cars with no issues.
did you make something like this (do you still have it)? where you can use the tie rod to bend the arm, then set the distances using the tie rods thread count and marking the jam nut, so as to get them exactly the same?
Just talked to Oakie Joe, he did a couple axles for me about 12 years ago. He's 80 and still at it! He works with Sid over at droppedaxles.com and they do great work, as do others who have posted here.
I got one from Oakie just a month or so ago , original A axle dropped ,absolutely cracking work and very reasonable price too ( even with my governments cut stuck on top)
Looks like a Blackie Green axle. I bought one mid 60s for my 40 coupe. From Dickinson Dunn in Victoria
this is one of the first batch of axles we did years and years back, back around 2003, seems like yesterday, 17 years of doing axles seems crazy! i literally think this was number 2 or 3 we did. its a deepish drop and we let it narrow up like @-Brent- 's axle. the next one we did we didnt let it narrow as much and it turned out killer. i paid $15 each for those 2 32 heavy axles! heres the 3rd or so one we did
Maybe a more drop axle, I'm not sure this has been on my old hot rod since it was put together in the 50s. Notice the square steel spacer between the wishbone and axle. Can anyone identify this for me?
