The original crossmember is still an option, not exactly looking forward to it but it is. Looking back at a thread I started about stance on these cars doing the front spring might be a good option.

And of course my 9/16" drill bit took a shit on me. Next I'll have to take it all out notch the X for the trans and swap out the front cross member IMG_20200324_152738333.jpeg

Hey flatout, what are you running for front suspension? That looks perfect to me, and is where I want to get my 46.

5 inch dropped axle from Sids, reverse eye main and a few leaves removed. Unsplit bones. It drives absolutely perfectly!

Thanks, I probably would never have considered a 5 inch drop, but now.....

It narrowed the track width up just enough I have zero rubbing from lock to lock. I wouldn't change a thing.

So the first pic is with the speedway cross member and the second with stock. I can sit the engine on the mounting brackets without spacers, but I'm still going touching a u bolt. I'm thinking some thick washers might help. Maybe someday in the future a lowered axle might be a little easier

I drove mine for quite a while with the lowered rear and stock front. Took only a few hours to swap the front axle and spring out. If it were me I would leave the stock crossmember and swap the axle later. Just have fun driving it for a while

Well I think I'm at the part of this project where l lay awake at night slowly crying myself to wondering what have I gotten myself into.... It really didn't come apart to bad some cuts got butchered but hopefully, once I replenish my cutoff wheel supply i can back hacking the other body. -Got the new body bushings on everything lined up pretty nicely.
-Braced up the sedan and got the doors in place for the big chop
-gutted the doors and got more good parts than I anticipated. IMG_20200426_173437417_HDR.jpeg IMG_20200426_173035864_HDR.jpeg

Got a little ambitious today. Everything seems to line up ok. The thing that worries me the most is one of the posts got cut on a bit of an angle so I'm gonna have some fun with that IMG_20200504_154612610_HDR.jpeg IMG_20200504_154629255_HDR.jpeg IMG_20200504_152802400_HDR.jpeg

Thanks.... I'm just hoping it turns out half way decent looking and doesn't turn into a Laurel and Hardy car on me

I need a couple of measurements for comparison. The vertical door opening and the windshield opening

Went to my dad's cousin and grabbed a starter, flex plate, and a spacer. Then went next door to lkq and got an alt, and some ignition parts... Ohhhh and a hubcap for the misses.

So stupid question of the day. Which way does the crank seal goes on, and do I need RTV with paper gaskets both for to timing chain cover??? IMG_20200521_155010133_HDR.jpeg IMG_20200521_155015847_HDR.jpeg

  25. The front seal flange goes to the outside, and I really like Permatex hi-tack spray adhesive/sealer on paper gaskets. I do put a light smear of RTV on the seal before installing.

Don't slow down! Show the doubters that you're Topher. (than them!)

Glad your wife pulled through, and the coupe is looking much better.

My '47 Four door is rust free, BUT! Previous owner's younger brother cut the center right out of the front cross member.
(old method of lowering: I did it in '59 to a NICE '46 Tudor sedan, but also a 4" Mor-Drop axle, flattened spring, reversed eyes.)
Ha! When I was jacking it down, (Hein-Werner 1.5 ton floor jack) the danged bumper laid right on the jack handle! Had to use a scissor jack to pull the floor jack out!
Bumper sat 4" off the ground...rear was a little lower than stock, but 8.20 rears and 6.40 fronts afforded a 'Mad Rake'!
I have a 455 Olds engine, and some others...(SBC 283, 454 Chevy, 390 FE) I think Speedway front cross member and Posie spring, have Super Bell 4" axle.
    LOVE those '41-'48s.

I tried the speedway cross member but my 351 oil pan wouldn't clear it without raising the engine. I'm thinking about getting a dropped axle to make up for that. I got a set of cheap Dodge springs for the rear I'm gonna see about getting them de-arched so it sits lower in the back

I made a spring reversing jig that uses a bottle jack. Made it with scrap i had laying around. Ill get you a picture. Then you can de-arch your rears and reverse your front main leaf. Super easy and surprisingly fast.

Not sure what these notches are. Both are the same size same location on each head under the center valve cover bolt by the intake IMG_20200527_122903300.jpeg IMG_20200527_122844381.jpeg
