I would clean it, tune it and put a set of nice tires and wheels on it and drive it. That would be a dream car for this MoPar guy.

Nice split window. Looks like a 1967 Michigan plate (I think). Also the obvious mods like the third tail light. I also notice that the owner decided to ditch the cute whitewalls in favor of some pretty serious tires (that included taking a saw to the bodywork)-Oh the humanity of it all.

Post 6052 is my friend Peter Bonavito from Astoria area in NY. It had a 426 Ply wedge motor and ran A/MP. The picture is at Westhampton dragstrip around 1965. Like a lot of my old race buddies he died a long time ago.

Pat, I have several pictures of that car-pretty cool. I ran an RB block Mopar for awhile and it was pretty impressive IMO. Would be fun to have a go at it in an old Vette. There were others that ran them as well, but not many. A/MP was pretty competitive though in the late 60s early 70s with Landy and Sox (and a few others) occasionally running in that class. Apparently they were protesting the NHRA for something that seems to escape my mind at the moment.

Not sure I could take a saw willy nilly to wheelwells either. I was a few hours late on a 63 Coupe in the late 70s where they had cut the wheelwells. It was in Washington Michigan which was hours away and had been for sale in the paper. Seller wanted $2500 and I took the cash with me but the guy before me bought it. Car was kind of sad in a way but it was the only midyear I came close to buying. Wish I had as they are a great looking car.

  6. Unfortunately, it and the one you tried to buy are probably NCRS Bloomington Gold cars now. Wasn't Al Maynard up near Washington township? Maybe he or one of his friends got to that Vette before you did.

Jim I posted this somewhere before but here is an article about Peter and Ray. Ray's car ran a 283 in C/MP. As with many of these cars they started out as( some still were) street driven and not built for a class. Peters car just happened to fall into A/MP and only ran locally. I think the photo of Peters car is one of mine geez that was about 55 years ago.

Not sure how many center steers that I remember from the early 70s. I guess I can't remember the first center steer but I would place it a bit after the "golden era". The buy it now price is interesting.

Pat there was a 60 Vette out of Syracuse New York owned by Steve Standish that ran a Dodge engine. Do you remember the car?

Carcruse Maynard may have lived there but I do not know exactly where he lived. I ran into him a couple of car shows and at a MHRA club meeting and the last time was at Autorama in 2010 when I showed my black 62. We talked about him driving the blue Midwest 62 Vette. Last time I saw or spoke to him. RIP.

An example of what I wrote above^^^ I typed it right after LB posted the redone post and never hit "post reply". Jim I don't recall that car from Syracuse.

Loveoftiki a great picture that has been posted a few times in various threads. The "backyard" racer, man they were a great bunch of hot rodders and if your neighbourhood did not have one there was something wrong!!

    Cool!
Back in the day my Mom drove a brown Chevy too. But it wasnt a Corvette, it was a lowly station wagon.

Here is one from the local MAACO body shop. My buddy owns the place in town and had just loaded the Vette up on the ramp truck to take her home. 6 tail lights, 5 speeeed trannnnny, 4 wheel flairs, 3 coats of clear, 2 side pipes and a GT aluminum fuel cap.

Not your typical MAACO. Not your typical march day. But cool none the less. Stay classy HAMB.

First generation Grand Sport owner Delmo Johnson takes his car on an off-course excursion at Green Valley Raceway TX in June, 1964. (Formula car is Ed Washburn in a Cooper F1.) Do not remember why the car was running a John Mecom Racing Team sticker. Sticker may have been put there by Mecom's guys before the car left the Mecom facility in Houston where Delmo got the Grand Sport from Duntov/Mecom. Car was painted the medium blue color ALL Mecom cars were that year before they went dark blue/white.

I like it when guys change their vettes from lowly biscaynes into impalas by adding another pair of tail lights.......
