CA's on lockdown now. We're only supposed to go out for essential goods & services. I don't think this would qualify.

I built it in 2014 with a blown Flathead, and switched to Ardun power in 2017. It's now is a Lakester, after a 19" lengthen job and a new body. IMG_0683.JPG IMG_3303.JPG IMG_3295.JPG

Got the brake rocker arm assembly tacked in place, and the pull rod connected. Rather than machining bungs, I sometimes turn down hi-nuts or rod connectors for that purpose. Once fully welded, there will be a gusset on the threaded tube. I can't complete the pedals until I get the brass bushings for the pedal shaft. These are 35-38 pedals. 7. Curious on how determined the ratio of the rocker arm.

Rich, The pedal length from center of pivot to center of the pad is 13", it will be shortened 1", to 12", and the arm that connects the linkage is 3". Divide 3 into 12 =4 to 1. The ratio of the rocker arm is 1.466666 times 4 = 5.864. This has proven well with a 1" master cyl in these cars. However, it is simple to change ratios by changing the blades on the rocker arm. Thanks for the question. IMG_4432.JPG IMG_4434.JPG IMG_4435.JPG IMG_4439.JPG IMG_4438.JPG IMG_4441.JPG

  9. Thanks! Good tech info and nice re-use of mechanical brake pedals.

The main reason I use them is, the tight space and the the clutch pedal, eliminates the use of hydraulic pedals because of the master cyl location. The fact that no one uses them, makes them dirt cheap.

Oh Yeah, another reason I like them for this application is, with the master cyl moved back under the seat, the floor is clean of access doors or removable panels. P1010134.JPG

Marty, you may be past this already but I was up in one of my sheds just now and ran across a couple of tank ends. These must have been from when we were still prototyping but they look pretty good. If you want them for the project I'll send them over.

Last night, I bent the back end of the rear arms, cut the ends off and tacked in the bungs. I am certain that some on here will debate the reliability of using this style arm, but I have them running with lot of miles, and some track time to boot. The weak point is the eyelets that bolt the arm to the housing. The plan is to reinforce that area. With the placement of the fuel tank, it's difficult to employ a torque arm, just offset of center, as is recommended. Going forward, one thing that might be a problem is drive line angle, with the pinion shaft centered vertically. Rough measurements show a 16" driveshaft, the pinion is 2-1/2 to 3" higher than the output shaft at the trans. All of the rest of these I have built, either had quickchanges or 9" Ford rears with the pinion 2" or lower from center. As a last resort, Bruce (Mr. Quick Change) will get his wish ! Take care, my friends. IMG_4442.JPG IMG_4446.JPG IMG_4444.JPG IMG_4449.JPG IMG_4450.JPG IMG_4452.JPG IMG_4453.JPG

Marty, I get the whole "old school" tool thing but a 10 key adding machine? C'mon! I'm a little surprised it doesn't have a handle on the side.

I've got pretty much the same thing on my desk, different brand, maybe a couple different features, but basically the same thing. I see no need to replace it.

    Frank,
I never have put a kit together, however I had some of the parts laser cut. If I had found the HAMB 20 years ago, to connect with people with a real interest, and willing to build something, it would have been far different. I mailed a lot of these out, with not much response. IMG_4455.JPG

Over a month ago, I mentioned getting a better camera and setting up a tripod to improve the photos I take. Shortly after, I get a call from Rooman, to talk about Track Roadsters. He mentioned he had an extra camera, and he would put together a package and send it to me. The big brown truck showed up today, and delivered this. I had a nice tripod, so as soon as I get the proper photo card, we should see some improvement in photo quality. I don't have visions of grandeur, being the next Steve Coonan. Thanks Keith, my friend. IMG_4236.JPG IMG_4456.JPG IMG_4459.JPG

I welded in the gussets for the rear kick up, they were sawed out of 3 X 1-1/2 tube. IMG_4462.JPG IMG_4463.JPG IMG_4466.JPG

Marty.....Were the numerous roadsters you've built done to about the same wheelbase? I printed a side-shot photo of your red #7 roadster and have it thumb-tacked above my computer for inspiration. I made an attempt to determine the wheelbase by roughly scaling it and figuring that the body is about 49" from the firewall to the back would put the wheelbase right around 99". Is that close?

    Thanks

    Lynn

Lynn, your figures couldn't be much closer, the 25 and older bodied cars have 100" wb, like a stock "T". The 26-27 chassis I built was 103.5 like a model A. The big difference being, on a 26-27, the body dictates the rear axle location, whereas on the early ones the rear axle can shuffle forward, and look OK. I started out with a 27 steel body, and wanted something similar to the Don Turner car pictured below, for the street, but with the amount of engine set back, I couldn't make it work. 2012-07-10 180022.jpg

They finally shut us down at the truck plant yesterday, now I have time to get caught up on this thread and the roadster p/up build. It's all up to you to keep us going through this quarantine Marty...
