What the hell, man?! You read one headline and you're an expert at making judgments? I Googled your quote and read the article. In a nutshell, I found enough to suspect an agenda. How about some facts: Texas, 17 cases, 3 deaths. California, 900 cases, 17 deaths. Texans are taking our 3 deaths very seriously. 3 is too many. Of course, it may get worse and we're serious about that possibility, too. Schools, businesses, events, etc. are shutting down in the same ratios and scope as anywhere else. Texans as a culture are fiercely independent and don't tend to see big government as a panacea for every issue. But that doesn't mean we're stupid or have our heads in the sand. We watch out for each other and take care of business better than most other places. There's no lack of action. The very small percentage of 'open for business' stragglers we may have are quickly learning it will cost them.

Sounds like the epitome of low key car events, so low key you don't even have stop and gab show and tell sessions. Meet at some slightly out of the way parking lot at a set time and hand out maps in case someone gets lost and away you go at a reasonable pace. Keep the numbers manageable and maybe invite only and keep the route within reason but past some nifty sights along the way.
Had someone have a hemorrhage and fall in it earlier today when I suggested that there was plenty of fun stuff to do that didn't require being around other people and they couldn't grasp the concept that the weren't supposed to be outside of their house at all. Some of those suggestions I gave were drive out to that spot a few miles from the house where you always wanted to take a sunrise or sunset photo and never gave yourself the time to do it. ] Hike that nature trail that isn't far from the house. Just go for a ride that doesn't include stops where there are bunches of people standing around. My niece probably has her "what I crave" red food truck set up on a corner somewhere around Yakima and she doesn't have tables or anything. True grab and go gourmet tacos right now. In a week or two I might take off some bright sunshiny day and do that full circle loop around Mt Adams that I always wanted to with photo stops at every spot I can take a photo of the mountain. I've wanted to do that for years and if I pack a lunch it is 100% no personal contact. I'll make one suggestion though, Stick the entry fees to shows that you don't go to in the next couple of months plus maybe what you would spend for gas to get there and back away in a kitty so you have the money set back to go to a bucket list event later in the year when things open up. Not going to the Portland Roadster show last weekend kept me from spending the 100 to 200 bucks that I normally spend on a one day trip down and back and another 150 if we make a two day trip out of it. The money that you would have spent at events but saved back might pay a good part of a trip to Roundup later in the year.
Nebraska weather is still dicey to work outside on my rides. And we are dealing with my darling mother-in-law in a hospice situation, we cannot get in the facility to see her but can see her thru her room window and talk via cell phone. My big concern is our auto event in the last weekend of Aug., Jam'n Gears, this is the seventh year that we have dubbed Lucky 7, and it is my Lucky 7 tour as I am 77 in June. Crossing our fingers that the world has come back to normal and we have our event. Staying in touch with my gearheads by phone at least.
With a imminent shutdown looming. I fortunately have my mom to care for. Son on the back 40, 4 grandkids and shops full of projects. 3 homesteads all contained to 85 acres. Be OK for awhile.

Study and find the facts, Texas is way behind the other states in practicing social distancing, shutting down places, schools etc. The Governor himself said he would rather listen to local leaders on how they feel---rather than follow the rest of the country and world for that matter. Maybe do some research on Italy's situation and discover how serious the matter is.
I've got a 'study' for you. Study how many folks are leaving California and moving to Texas. And 'research' which state is more typical of the problems Italy is experiencing. I'm done. You're blocked.

This thread was destined to turn into a argument about how to deal with a health threat. The reality is there is no cure or other way to slow down the infection rate other than limit contact. For those who are bummed out they can’t have car activities maybe they can consider those folks who have died so far, or lost their jobs. Yesterday someone told me of a casino executive , now laid off, who faces no job as he thinks that the shut down of all casinos, bars and restaurants in Nevada will result in bankruptcies. Life is changing in a big way. I do appreciate the thought of getting out and doing something fun, but now is not the time. Now is the time to consider how we can adapt to the situation, mitigate the effects and work together.

Shoot, I kinda feel this to be a blessing. Grant it, I'm an introvert. I final got my two car garage in order and ready to start on my T/AV8 project. Also working from home is nice, life is quieter also seems like its slowing down. I look out the window and smile. Not stuck in a stuffy office with people you don't really like. It sucks it's on these circumstances. But sometimes its nice to be forced to smell the roses. Stay healthy!
I'm not sure why anyone should care what is being said about their particular state. Let's all get along... dammit. If you don't want to go outside, don't go. There's nothing wrong with that as you're doing your part. I've always bent rules as much as possible without getting myself into deep trouble. 44YO and never been arrested. That being said, the virus is not radioactive material. You can go outside and you should be fine. Lick door knobs and handrails and well... you're an idiot and all bets are off. I see no reason not to go for a ride, stop and BS for a bit, and take her home when we're all content. No high fives, no de-panting one another, and don't be sneaking kisses from the lot lizards and risk should be minimal. Ryan, I'm in. Keep me posted. 3blap.
I'm glad he came to reality, he didn't have this attitude a week ago. Lets all try to be safe, any type of "gathering" is not safe IMO. We are trying to flatten the curve as a nation. The only way to do this to stay home until the cases reach their peak and start to decline.

It sounds like our governor has made the decision for us here in sunny California. If the announcement I read on my phone this afternoon is correct we are ordered to stay home unless on a mandatory errand such as grocery shopping, picking up medications or medical care. All over the above statements, I love running amuck ,always have ,as long as it doesn’t effect any outsiders! In these strangest of times the last thing I want to do is cause grief for anyone else,and there are a lot of people out there that could get effected seriously by thoughtless actions of others. No, the sky’s not falling in, but it’s fucken cloudy for a lot of innocents at the moment. A run with your mates could be considered good medicine in these “Crazy” times.
I couldn't help myself on Friday. A front rolled through, things cleared up, and the dry air prevailed. I saw that the rest of the weekend looked bleak, so I jumped on it! Any reason to drive the coupe, and I'm on it! I owe the idea to Ryan, but it was kinda amazing to have the downtown streets to myself... literally. This place is a ghost town and I urge those of you to get out and take advantage of it. What I'm saying is, keep your spirits up, be safe and enjoy the life you have.
Took the '57 for a 100 mile ride today. Stopped for gas, used a disposable glove. My dog had a great time as usual. Last weekend I took a day long 380 mile trip around Oklahoma, did the same there, and brought food and drinks. BUT....one thing I worry about are the public restrooms. Unavoidable at my age on a longer trip like last weekend. I guess I need to also carry some disinfectant wipes for the toilet seat when needed..........if the public restrooms are even going to be open?! Restrooms availability are something to be considered when planning the Rod Run. Soooo, I'm actually talking about public toilet seats on the Hamb. Now that's a sign of the times!

Restrooms availability are something to be considered when planning [/QUOTE] A cross country drive would be good right now, zero traffic for the most part, you would be totally isolated and not harming anyone... concerns are the restrooms, you can gas up using gloves and wipes and disinfectant, hand sanitizer, the one concern is a clean place thats open for restroom purposes is a concern, you will need to go in somewhere and it is unknown what may or may not be open.
