Post 1122 is an A.C. Ace, designed in about 1953. When AC lost its engine supplier, Bristol, the car nearly went out of production. Carrol Shelby contacted them and falsely claimed he had an engine but needed a chassis. He then made false claims to Chevrolet and Ford and told them he had a chassis and needed an engine. After some re-engineering and testing, this car became the Cobra.

Sebring 12 Hour, 1963. Pit stop practice for the Ken Miles/Lew Spencer car that retired from the race although they also shared the #12 car with Phil Hill and won the class as well as finishing 10th overall. Hill is with Shelby on the right side of the photo.

May be based on an Autotune Gemini which in turn was based on an early Elva.

It IS an A.C. Ace, but I have to look three times to make certain it isn't a Siata 208 (as pictured 1953 model 208S had hood scoop). Windshield and badge are distinctive.

One of the funniest articles I remember from Car and Driver or Road & Track in the '60s was a story about two high school kids who did a shade tree swap of a SBC into an Opel sedan. It was a real amateur job, complete with oversize tires from the junkyard Their favorite thing was to pull up on some Detroit iron and smoke the tires at 80 mph. Wish I could find that story again.

Sam Parriott in his second Kurtis built drag race car. Sam was the mayor of the City of Industry and evidently used city funds for his racing efforts, supposedly to promote the city.
