did a little more grinding on the perch brackets? to soften the curve
and reversed them to push the shackle mounts outboard to use a longer spring

    mounted spindles to check clearances,
definitely need to bend the steering arms
there is crashing at shackle to steering arm and shackle to tierod..
I may turn them back and go with a shorter spring
that will require bending both the spring perches and steering arms but might provide the best solution..

bolted on some wheels and propped things up again to check proportions
had this ancient radically chopped '32 shell on the wall, leaned it more or less in place.
front and side are looking OK, rear might look better with a few more parts to fill it out

    Yup,that's pretty cool T,very sharp.
Only thing showing in photos that may be better,is if the front rims set inside a small bit,as is in photo, looks like they are out set a little too much=too much scrub to front wheels{ that can make steering an braking act a bit funny an do stuff, that would not happen if scrub was set right.

How do you intend to prevent the spring perches from rotating around their vertical axes? The spring shackles, necessarily at a considerable angle, will create a horizontal load roughly equal to the corner weight of the car, tending to cause rotation.

Hard to tell with your angled pics and the magazine pics of the Chan car, but I think maybe you could bring your rear axle forward a couple inches. And maybe bring the front axle back an inch too? Just to give it the "cute as a bug" look. Like Weesner draws. Do you know the wheelbase of the Chan car?

I don't know the wheelbase of the Chan car,
But do agree about moving major components around to create a more balanced and pleasing look.
I am not working from a specific plan, it will be, as is the case with all my projects, an evolution of ideas based on an incomplete image in my mind formed as a composite of various examples of similar builds.
It is a work in progress

spent most of the day moving stuff around,
pulled the rearend of choice from the stack,
(of course it's at the bottom of the stack)
    early '60s? Pontiac/Olds 9.3 posi,
put it on the cart to drag it outside for clean up

took advantage of the beautiful roadster weather to gather up some more wire cups, grinder discs and misc junk to clean up the rear

and spent the rest of the day cleaning the remains of the brackets and crust
and pulled the brakes off, one side wet and fairly well preserved, the other dry and rusty
'pretty sure I have better drums and backing plates around somewhere..

date code says December 13 1962,
stamped OL makes it a 3.08:1 Limited Slip
casting shape makes it a 3rd generation.
    brackets removed looked like Pontiac.

Changed the thread title as the Hulk lettering went away with the alternate rear cab section and I think of it more as a roadster than a bucket now with the turtle deck

Dug a spare block and heads out, bolted a bell and transmission to it, set a spare manifold on all to mimic the J2 setup that will likely go in it
and rolled that between the frame rails.
Ground clearance under pan is close to where it should be, frame could come down a touch, body needs to come down about 4", maybe more..

    Shoving stuff around some more
Plan was to modify the A frame but it looks like it'd be easier and faster to fab a new one..

  27. Paul, you build some of the coolest stuff in my opinion. The fact that they are Olds powered is just the cherry on top. Keep on rocking!

Looks great Paul, and those A frames are a lot of work, compared to tube.

Stole away to the shop for an hour or so
Swapped the hangers side for side and heat/bent them to work with the shorter spring..
Shackles should just clear the arms and tie rod now.
