I wonder if a jeweler could do this? There's a custom jeweler that we used for some QC applications.

Nope not this year we have to save up what little vacation, and money I have for a cruise.

Got a wild hair up my arse today and thought I'd get the engine and transmission together and mocked up. Well needless to say only one bolt hole lines up. The engine is a 351W from an 86 Ford truck and the trans is a C4 from a 69 mustang with a v8

Are we certain that is a 351W and not a 351M?? The M block uses the big block bolt pattern.

Well,....Then something is wonky with the bell housing. You need a C4 to 351W b/h. You might try 6 Mile Auto Parts.

I bet you have a 200 I6 bell on that transmission. The pattern is all wrong for a V8. Simple enough to swap out, just make sure you get a post 1967 Windsor {289, 302, or 351W} V8 or 250 I6 bell for a case fill transmission. A pan fill bell will fit the engine, but not the trans as the bolt pattern is way larger.

But Bama.....If that is a bell housing for an inline six?..That would mean that some moron seller at a swap meet lied to Chris just to make a sale..And we know THAT never happens..

He could have lied, or maybe didn't know any better. Only the smaller six carried the different bolt pattern as far as I remember, the bigger 250 used the same one as the Windsor series engines. Just like looking at a 5 hole wheel out by itself, unless it's marked, you can't hardly tell a Chevy 5x4.75 from a Ford 5x4.5.

Boy do I feel stupid. I guess one of the locator pins went in the wrong hole. Not I need to do a little figern to get the motor mounts installed. IMG_20200307_130233133.jpeg IMG_20200307_143900026_HDR.jpeg

So I got to motor mounts in place and I'm running into some interference with the oil pan and the cross member. The front of the oil pan dips down on one side causing it to sit on the cross member. I have an extra oil pan but I think it may be 302. Is there a way to modify the pan to fit? I forgot, do you have a 351W or a 289-302?

351w I tried putting black pan on but the dipstick area was pushing against the pickup tube.

Yeah, 351w won't work on a 302w without a lot of work. Can you raise your mounts enough to get clearance?

Chris..With the pan off the engine do you have clearance to set down on the mounts? If so, we can probably notch the pan..If not? Time to raise the engine and trans. JB

And to rotate the crank thru a full cycle with clearance with the cross member! If not then it is time to raise the engine or consider surgery on the cross member to get clearance for the pan.

Can anyone id these wheels? It's 15" 5x4.5" with the Ford logo stamped on them. I bought a set of four tire but one of them is quite different. IMG_20200321_130927854_HDR.jpeg

Made some progress on the engine install. Found some 1.5" tubing of decent thinks with holes spaced just right. Not sure how well they hold up on the road but at least it'll help me line things up. Plus I have enough room for a full size oil filter. Looks racey with the holes in it! I think you'll be fine with that.

What is the original use of that tubing? Is it some cheap steel or aluminum? If either get some good steel tubing not cheap hardware crap.

Chris...I would give some thought to a 1.5" thick circular spacer under the cushions. Know anyone with a lathe ?JB.

IMHO do as sliceddeuce suggests it would certainly look better. If not get a better grade and thicker steel. Is the problem balancer or pan clearance?

I was thinking of doing something more sturdy later on. The front of the pan sits on the u-bolts. Even with the spacers there's little to no space.

That dropped crossmember screwed ya! I'm running the stock crossmember and that pan clears by a mile. Is the stock crossmember an option? You can get the car plenty low without it. 20200321_171322.jpeg
