Posted by @HEMIDAV Seriously bent rare car. Observe the windshield, where someone's head went through. Dad told me he came upon a scene like this when I was a baby. Said he went to Western Auto and bought seat belts for the family '59 Ford after that. As kids, my friends grumbled when they had to buckle up in our cars. Many had never worn a seat belt.
I can't identify the cars in the first photo but this has to be CRA at El Centro. No matter as it's a great photo. The second shot looks to be Tony Bettenhausen in the Belanger 16 under Charles Van Acker at Milwaukee. Thanks, Rootie!
In 1966, I hauled Breedlove's LSR race car all around the county (about 34,000 miles) with this Ford tractor, powered by a 534" gasoline powered Super Duty engine, and I can assure you that it had a lot more than 97 HP...
490 Foot Pounds and 266 Horsepower if I am reading the spec page correctly. Limited to about 3400 rpm. Nice picture George, never seen that one before.
I never knew how much power the 534 engine produced, but I ran that truck up and down every freaking hill in the United States and never had any problems maintaining highway speeds. The only thing we ever did to the tractor was to add another 50-gal gas tank on the passenger side to match the one on the drivers side. I hope you noticed the little sign painted on the rear of the trailer, Craig's humour on display...
Three gals showing a little leg on the '57 'vert! Think I know the one in the middle. Notice no bumper bullets, unusual on a ragtop, many were optioned out.
