Random thought: if you need that missing rear window and it's the fixed version (glass does not slide) I have a pair in my shop with useable rubber. You can have them for the price of shipping or pick them up from the next HAMB drags. (Unless you plan to chop, of course!)
Nice car! I’m building a ‘51 as well, good luck with your build I’ll be following! Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Nice car. Screams gasser to me. Even though they are the in thing. First to go would be the camaro subframe. it's to wide for the car.
I want one pretty bad to build a gasser with a Paxton GMC 6 Sent from my S48c using The H.A.M.B. mobile app

Thanks atomickustom, I have the glass and rubber gasket.... thanks J_J2m, I'll keep you posted Thanks fastcar1953, I'll have to research the camaro subframe issue I'm with you on the gasser build idea Neb Hillbilly
stock track width is around 57 inches. camaro width is 61. tires usally hit the fenders and look wrong.
Having once owned a 51 Chevrolet Business Coupe, this car is definitely of interest to me. Looks to be in pretty good shape too (other than the front clip). I am Butch/56sedandelivery.
Unfortunately the subframe is already welded in but you can narrow it to fit if you want to re-do it. Me and some buddies in my car club did a '52 with a 67-69 clip. we narrowed it 4". That was 6 years ago
Talking Sub Frames will get this post closed. I do like the project, looks solid. My best advice is to hang the fenders and see what ya got. 66/67 Chevelle is a much better fit except the steering box mucks up the Core Support and Rad fit. Change for the sake of change isn't always a good move. The factory stock stuff was also used under the Corvetts up into the latter years. As I remember it they were Bad Ass sports cars of the times. I also like the beam axle ideas however if you just want Kool factor and a driver I'd graph a stock unit back on but step it 2" while doing the repair, then it's low and you don't need to cut springs or dropped uprights.
just bought a stock 52 4dr. ....problem solved...thanks for the good advice Pist-n-Broke and all the rest of you guys.....
I've always liked the looks of "gasser" or drag cars without straight axles. Something about dropped front suspension and a raised stance looks meaner than hell to me.
I may be wrong but I was told the difference is that the sports coupe had a back seat but the business coupe didn't. My old '51 was a business coupe but had been modified a lot when I bought it, it had a carpeted shelf built behind the front seats. And you are correct- these coupes are freaking beautiful!!
Fat man fabrication sells upper and lower control arms for your set up that moves the spindles in a couple of inches a side. I put a set in a car a few years ago and the non stop tire to fender rubbing went away.
I did one years ago , Mustang was the answer for a pan independent front super easy swap to stock frame . The stock Mustang crossmember was , super easy to use , worked fine . As far as a straight axle , early Chebbie works easy also with all the brackets the front of the frame is damn near the same in 37 - 52 .
