Yes mate. Still not mint but tidier than it was. Also had the bumpers rechromed. Custom craft spotlights on their way too
Thanks guys! I really appreciate the kind words. I am trying to keep the car looking like an early build as you say. It was chopped when I got it and I have done a hell of a lot of other work to compliment it. The car is influenced by cars like the Quesnel merc and also Jeff Nepal's which is one of my favourites. The stance is slightly off in that pic as I was just leaving and had my foot planted
Thank you very much. That is one of the koolest compliments that I have heard. Kool thing is I'm trying to decide on paint and your set up is close to what I was shooting for. Love the brown and the gold painted rims. Very tasteful & classy.
Great pic, Mick! I love pictures of customs out on the street. Just curious, who took the pic? Judging by the front of the car barely showing under yours, I'd guess that it was Ralph Schindel in his Merc. More info on the pic please..........E
That would have been kool if Ralph was behind me. Travis (aka Two Tall Okie) took the pic when we cruised over to Starbird’s during the Lead Ain’t Dead show. Thanks for kind words. Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
The God father merc has been in Australia for a number of years. Sent from my SM-G900I using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Kool, thanks for the update. I was wondering where it was. If you have more pics please post them. Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
You've got a sharp eye Bill! You, Jim (@stanlow69) and @Sancho should all open up a detective agency (lol)! The things you guys see and point out is nothing short of amazing! E
Some one please correct me if I am wrong, but in the tiny little part of my brain that stores "Mercury stuff", I seem to recall that the speedometer from early 60's F-100 Pickups fits the '49 dash. For that matter, a Canadian Mercury Pickup would be the same, yah know, if you want to keep it "Mercury". I had a '51 Mercury car, obviously totally different dash, so that is why I offer the above info with a bit of "I'm not sure". That and I am getting older and have CSR occasionally.
CSR ?? 54delray, I believe you regarding that memory issue! As at a certain age we all suffer from C.R.S. !! Or maybe it was that dang autocorrect. Lol 1 more car I promise, Rex Winter Dry n windy Lubbock TX
Same Car. Finally gave up thinking it need to be perfect for paint and painted it. Will still need more work but am excited to get it back together and driving.
Yahoo! I'm very excited to see paint on your Merc. You are going to be blown away with the response it will receive. Sorry, I'm already sobering. Lol! I've been battling the same thing and sometimes you just have to say it is time. I'm almost there..... I've had conversations with kustom and Hot Rod builders about the quest of striving for perfection. It has really hurt our hobby because most of us don't have enough money to get to the perfect status. Because of what we watch on TV or read we want perfection. Builders have the ability to get close but all of the time and $$ is not worth it to most budgets. The common guy has the assumption that Kustoms cost too much to build. They can be built at a realistic price. My Merc was built from parts out of multiple salvages and parts purchase from the HAMB. Fortunately we still have some good ones around but they are slowly disappearing.
Is this Merc hardtopped but not chopped? If you blow up the picture, the glass has chrome edging like an early 60s GM hardtop. The driver's glass is rolled half way down and it looks like there is no post. Did the chrome around the windows and the distance that the picture was taken away from the car make it look like the post is gone? If it is chopped, it looks like it was very little. What do you guys think? E
