I've been debating about applying for a job on the other side of the state, and then trying to figure out what to do with my hot rod and all my tools.

March 4th 2020 The master cylinder cage, support brace and other related items were PRE Paint prepped and given the Eastwood Extreme Chassis Black spray bomb treatment. Most of the new fasteners I needed were found in the nuts and bolts inventory.

I have beaucoup 3/8" bolts, nuts and washers but am all out of 1" long hex bolts and flat washers. I need both so, an order was sent off to McMaster-Carr. Once upon a time, I would refinish my rusted nuts but time is too short now and most new fasteners I order are stainless steel to minimize the rust problem.

The cotter pin assortment arrived yesterday. When I got to the BillyBob Shop, not a half hour passed before I stumbled over the assortment I was looking for, high and low, last week. Damnation!

Just damn! The replacement master cylinder is close, but no cigar. The mounting holes are off by about 3/16". I entered a deep ponder mode session with the beer of the day which was Duclan Brewing Co's Purple Passion Gose Ale. Tastes like grape soda . . . kinda. It's all in the packaging . If I took a swig of this out of a Nehi bottle, I'd probably spit it back out.

 

Replacing rear wheel bearings on my friends OT Vette and we mocked up the worlds first Hops and Stogy injection system

As my son works on the electrical, we stripped the car of all the wiring, I started the external engine parts. From the 6 alternator arms one looks pretty good if we get the correct belt. Intake and exhaust are permanent; now looking to perfect the fuel lines and linkage. One photo shows the port work. I’ll set the distributor after we prime the oil. As all here know one step forward...2 steps back.

Yesterday and today I spent porting a Crosley block, finish up tomorrow. A bitch to get to the valve pockets and the short turn radius, managed to slip and ding one seat by half its width. The old CNC by finger still works pretty good. I'll do a few pics when done, if I don't hit water; I got a little carried away in some areas. Don't ask why.

March 5th 2020 Gathered most of the tools I need to start the cab paint and bodywork. Got additional drums for the Eastwood SCT Surface Conditioning Tool to supplement the 120 grit drum that shipped with it. A more abrasive 40 grit drum to cut into existing body filler and narrow wheels in 40 and 80 grits for tight spots. Also a can of Aluminum body repair filler and spreaders.

Got a quart and two spray bombs of Rustoleum Farm Implement paint, International Red, and a Purdy 2-1/2 inch brush to get started. Guess I'll have to dive into this task now, no more pussy-footin' around it.

 

Bought an engine from a Hamber named frames. 84 yr old hot Rodder.

Offenhauser pistons and rings. Clay Smith camshaft. 282 duration. .325" lift. Ford exhaust valves. Oversize intake valves. Zephyr valve springs. Iskenderian lifters. Melling high volume oil pump. Neoprene front seal. All new bearings. New crankshaft and camshaft gears. New water pumps. Resurfaced flywheel. Used pressure plate and clutch disk. Reconditioned starter. Used crab distributor.
Getting it ready for fire.

 

Went today and made a deal on this piece of pigiron. It is gonna give up its factory ford air conditioner, power steering, hood ornament, fender skirts, auto column, bumper guards and dash trim to my 63 2 door hardtop. I can't believe that I found all of it on one car!

 

I spent my day priming and painting the bottom of my van. As you can see I Don't have a lift

March 6th 2020 Even tho' I'm paying Elvira due attention and cleaning her weekly, a three cigar job, she became peevish last week and gave me tire pressure warnings on more than one wheel on more than one day including e-mails from OnStar. The first time fooled me into firing up the air compressor and adding fifteen pounds where none was needed. I know better now to check with a gauge. However, the incident spurred me into repairing my portable air tank so it will hold air again and I won't have to fire up the air compressor as often.

95 degrees and a 104 heat index temperature, mid-afternoon, in the BillyBob Shop's neighborhood yesterday. First three digit heat index this year, I've seen. My new shop discipline is soon to be tested I think.

I put 2 new tires on the front of my old John Deere and mowed the grass, mixed up some spray and sprayed the weeds. Oh yea, I taped the plastic hood back together where it split in half when I opened it....Geezzze

Finished up the hood and mounted the Dan Fink latches and hinges . Found a leaking seam in the Walker radiator. So drained it . Clean and fluxed the put some lead on with my old irons . Think I got it fixed . Will know tomorrow. Will finish up the gaps on the hood and sand and paint this week . Blue

 

A nice day today I cleaned the Woodie up.

 

Pulled the a out and checked to see what the new wheels will look like on the 34.

 

Oh and put my shifter knob on.

 

Supposed to mow the lawn but required a trip to town for gas.
Instead, did an annual polish on the Vette valve covers.

Gotta be ready for cruisin' season.

March 9th 2020 Vacuumed Deerslayer's exterior. It still had a layer of debris on it from the warehouse re-roofing job eighteen months ago. Took the first pass over the cab exterior with the Eastwood SCT Surface Conditioning Tool. It put out a little more dust than I expected and wore about a quarter inch off the 120 grit drum. The goal is not to get down to bare metal, just to take the chalky layer off the existing epoxy primer to make a base for the new paint.

 

Threw together a quick paint booth and shot a few parts.

 

Was working on a floor repair and opened up the floor over the unibody frame rail. I looked in and saw the top of a bolt for the axle snubber, and remembered that it was broken off and was going to be a PITA to drill out. Locked two nuts on it from inside the frame rail and backed it out. Sure am glad I noticed it.

 

I just dropped off a largely original 1916 Model T Touring near Downtown Miami ....

Finished sealing the '47 last week and my friend hauled it up to the other garage. Been going over the scattered pieces of this thing and seeing whats lost. Did manage to get the shocks switched out with the shorter ones I bought for it about ten years ago, don't look it in the picture; but they are almost an inch shorter; so a little more progress. I was going to clean up the grime on the chassis some; but I (conveniently) forgot the wipes. Funny how things get so dirty just sitting around for a few years.

 

Today I decided to pull maintenance on the distributor and install and clock it to the number one cylinder. Much easier to find number one with the heads off.

This is a MSD. Has worked well for the past 6 yrs.
Boy was I surprised when I took the cap off. The rotor burned up the cap terminals. I’ve seen this before and had to change it out after 5 yrs prior to this one.
Check your MSD’s fellas. I’m surprise this thing was even firing.

 

Had to make up a brake line fitting to hook up to the grease gun so I could push a stuck caliper piston out of a 1959 TR3A

 

70 degrees here in Connecticut today. So did a little work on a set of Guide headlights I am restoring then took the coupe out of hibernation to go get some parts.
