All of the rust repair is done on the main body. I cant do any more metal work until I get the body back on the chassis. Before that happens, I have to a) prime, paint and undercoat the body and b) disassemble, blast, paint, reassemble the chassis. This may take a while. I don't do paint.

Meanwhile, here are finished pictures of the work done, so far. This is one solid old car now.

For best results, plan ahead. Its a lot easier to fit these panels and put in the tabs and braces while the body is on the rotisserie.

Foamed PVC sheet is the bomb! Easy to form with a heat gun.

When I started reading this thread, I wasnt expecting it to snowball. Build threads are the best part of the HAMB. You are doing an AWESOME job!
I look forward to your mild custom efforts. When I was a kid in the 50s all custom work around here was mild custom. Never saw any wild radical customs on the street.

  11. What is the best source for that foamed PVC board. I see Amazon carries it. Not familiar with it enough to know what pricing is or should be.

I buy it locally from a distributor, Piedmont Plastics. This was some leftovers, so I don't recall the price. I won't use that cardboard stuff any more. You can trim this with aviation snips and it cuts like butter.

Since I'm shaving the emblems off the hood and deck lid, I needed to work out a new latch mechanism. I cant fit the lid while its on the rotisserie but I felt good enough to put the lower part,of,the latch in. I believe I will end up in the trunk tacking the lid half of the latch unless I come up with a better idea. I will use a cable pull on the bulkhead under the rear seat to operate it. 0303201602.jpg

I had taken a different route on upholstery board design in the trunk because of mounting the Custom Auto Sound under the package tray but, after looking at your set up, which is simpler and has better lines, I am going to rethink my initial approach. As usual great work.

Thanks, Walt. I'm going with 2 - 6 1/2" speakers mounted to the rear of the parcel tray. The PVC board has enough depth at that point, plus it inclines them forward a bit. I will also put 2 - 6 1/2" speakers in the doors and an under the seat subwoofer, all powered by the Secret Audio system. I have that in a couple of my cars and like it a lot now that it has Bluetooth built in.

On my avatar I found a hatch back latch off a Eagle Talon that had a built in popper and cable. Will pop my deck lid jus enough to get my fingers in to lift.

Ok, I'm going to try this again because I think its important. My first post got deleted because it inadvertently showed some OT front suspension porn.

This shows the way I chose to install a 4 bar rear suspension in an X frame and shows how I chose to route my exhaust. The routing of the exhaust is important because it allows me to put a battery box where the old heater was.

4 link set up looks good. I like the way you braced the x-member at the front 4 link mounting point. Are you doing coil springs or air bags?

I'll be interested to see how you fit your tranny linkage and brake pedal in that space with the exhaust. That was one of the most difficult issues I faced.

That was one of the reasons I went to a firewall mounted swing pedal.

Tranny linkage shouldn't be a problem. I will probably use a floor mounted shifter. I'm going with a firewall mounted MC. That is the only way I could get it to work.

I carried my chassis to the powder coater late last week. He told me he is short handed , so it could be 3 or 4 weeks before I get it back.

Meanwhile, I'm going to rebuild my rear axle and am doing some stainless polishing. These gravel guards were pretty beat up but after lots of wet sanding, it looks 0413201153_HDR.jpg like they will turn out ok.

Nope. It looks better than NOS. I should have taken before pictures. I spent a lot of time wet sanding and buffing that piece.
