Customs Rare car in daylight after being in garage since 1968

Can anyone guess what it is?

This one is not hot rod or custom material. Think concours (at least try to).

 

Packard ....

 

I'll give a picture hint. Can you guess what this is?

 

302GMC got it! 1940 Packard Super 8, custom body by Rollson, Sunair Sedan.

 

The custom body was damaged somehow.

 

It barely fit on the trailer.

Believe Packard was the very first mf'r to offer air conditioning. The AC cost about the same $$$ as a new Chevrolet ...

Yes, this MFr was the first to have factory-installed A/C (in the cabin, not under the hood). And this one had a sliding sunroof, too.

It fits here. It is a custom bodied car. Those factory customs were the part of the work a lot of custom shops. Fleetwood Bodies were near me until GM bought them and moved them. There was another shop near me that did Kaiser-Frazier factory custom work.

 

You two are something else. I think all of us profess to being car lovers. I guess you two really aren’t car lovers. Quit your whining and let the rest of us car people see this

 

This was in a big shop in Long Beach, California. It was a family estate. There were four other cars that are more HAMB-friendly than the Packard, a vintage airplane, lots of tools, welders, machinery, doodads, junk, parts that went to hot rodders, and stuff in the house. We saved a lot of cool stuff.

1929 Model A roadster that my Dad sold for something like $50 when he went into the Navy. I remember learning how to double-clutch it, driving it before I had a license. We brought it back to our Dad.

 

I wonder what the blue airplane is.

 

The fuselage above the Model A is a 1939 Piper J-4A Cub Coupe, which was Piper's first model with side-by-side seating. At some point, it fell on the Model A.

He had restored a 1946 Erco Ercoupe. It was polished aluminum with bright yellow wings. It was sold several years ago. And the LaSalle cathedral car (hearse) that was in the hangar, too.
