Finished my part of the Speedster a few weeks ago. Working on a narrowed 23T with an early decklid now. And I have an awesome fun doodlebug for sale if anyone is interested.
Checking in for the month. not much new going on in Cheyoming. The Wife and I were able to put 100 miles on our coupe Friday and Saturday. In Wyoming during winter you have to take advantage of the rare 50 degree day with dry streets when they come. Looking for a Dual intake that sweeps up to clear a lake style header. Does anybody have something? I am probably going to get one of the nice ones gear drive makes but thought I would see if anybody here has one for sale. I would also be interested in a single intake that would work with a lake header also.
Here is an example of the header I have that I need an intake for. Please let me know if you want to sell a single or dual that will work. Thanks. Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
I know this isn’t exactly banger specific, but figured you guys would know. The barb fitting is what I removed from my Winfield carb. I wanted to use the stock gas line, but it doesn’t seem to seat properly in the carb. I don’t want to over tighten it and ruin the threads. What am I doing wrong here? The model A supply houses just call the fitting a 9/16 hex- what is the proper name for this fitting and are these two fittings effectively the same? Thanks
From what I seen Winfield used two different size fittings, 1/8 or 1/4 npt fuel inlet. You should be able to find these at Napa. If yours leaks the seat could be scored or you have to much tubing exposed and the furrel is not letting the fitting tighten all the way. I would not want a solid line from fire wall to carb. Too much body movement.
Thanks I was going to run the hard line with a rubber connection right before the carb. I’ll post it here once up and running.
March in Colorado, I love it! It was sunny and 60+ Saturday and then blowing snow sideways yesterday. I would like to take my car to the Antique Nationals in May. Having never run a 1/4 mile race with my car I am searching for gear ratio recommendations (quick change rear). Charts tell me 3.58 for 1/4 mile with my assumptions plugged in. Any recommendations for a typical hopped up banger? I have:3.78 R&P with a quick change rear, current gear set @ 4.68. 31" Dia Tires, V8 Trans w/ 28t gear set, OHV 4 port head. (I have a 25t trans gear set on my shelf that I know nothing about)
Installed a tattersfeild Intake and stromberg carb today,,,, I have a model b distributor to put in my model. Pickup, do I need to get a model b distributor driveshafe? Seems like the model a one is one piece.? . Can someone enlighten me on this?
Steve, Yes, you are getting older and time is flying by. But, the older I get the faster I was...........that's my story and I am sticking to it! J
Checking in - this made me chuckle, @johnneilson! Thanx. Steve @V4F, we're all getting older - so you're not alone in the matter. Looks good!
I don't know what the Winfield size is , however I know the Model A Zenith and Stromberg 97, Holley 94 all use an AN 1/2" fitting , 20tpi thread, outside diameter is 12.7mm 1/8 NPT is 27tpi , od 10.29mm ,. and 1/4 NPT is 18tpi. outside diameter is 13.72mm I know measuring in mm is foreign to most Americans ( especially talking about old cars , but that is how my charts read . The difference in diameter of 1mm between AN 1/2" and NPTF 1/4 is about .040" (40 thou) just enough to give you a headache. NPT - American Taper Pipe Thread = National Pipe Taper NPTF - American Taper Pipe Thread for Dryseal joint without sealant compound = National Pipe Taper Fuel NPT and NPTF appear to be identical. Both have the same pitch diameter at the top of the hole of the internal thread or end of the pipe on external threads and both have the same thread lengths or depths. However, there is a subtle difference in the root and crest diameters of the threads. The sealing tapers are possibly slightly different on the two fittings , common angles are 30 and 37 degrees, which is quite hard to see unless you have a gauge of some kind.
I just used the Model A shaft. Seems to be working fine. If that's not right, hopefully someone will chime in.
I just put an aircraft oil pressure gauge in my car and not knowing, those AN fittings drove me nuts till I got it sorted out. After reading your reply I went and checked the Winfield parts catalog as I was going by memory. He made two fuel screening inlets. One 1/8 and one 1/4.
Picked up a hand full of 1/2 NF phosphate coated grade 8 'tall' nuts yesterday..now I have main bearing bolt nuts with great grip for the rest of my natural life for 6 dollars and eighty two cents..woo-hoo
john , your saying BOTH are happening at the same time ! I used to be fast also , but cant remember when ………..

Had a good day and got a title for my truck. Used the old CA pinkslip that seller signed in 1980 and has been passed through a number of people (Truck and pink slip) since then. Wrote my name in the buyer section and went in with all my applications forms filled in correctly and the nice lady OK'ed it after struggling to find info on the pink slip...."EL thats an El camino. 1930 ford? no Maam thats a model A.....
Ive found that a smooth and caring line of bullshit works wonders at the State Home for the Incompetent..gotta love the fools who blurt out "there's a vin number on the frame"
