I live about 15 miles east of Chickasha and have been going for years. It seems to be going downhill to me!!!
Then help turn that around ... This was supposed to be the last year but the Family putting it on decided to continue next year. For me - Bakersfield Swap Meet in California is the Spring Kickoff. I am planning to attend Chickasha in March because I have never gone. I have friends who have gone for years. For me it is a social event - meting up with friends I don’t get to see otherwise. Jim
I have gone for years and it's so horrible, load all the parts twice.....what is the problem with that meet.?
Not enough participation. Internet buying & selling is great but nothing beats face to face interaction. If the real world swap meets die off that would be a great loss to the hobby. San Diego Big 3 just had its last meet. Any public event is as good or as bad as the participants choose to make it. Jim
Which Chickasha is this? I looked up the Oklahoma dates on the googles and they are in May? Trying to figure out if I can throw a rock and hit this one or not.
its called the "pre-war" meet. its on march 20-21. this is supposed to be the last year as the family that runs it has seen enough. speculation was that the guy from model T haven may take over on it, but thats not known yet. this has always been a great thing for me for 30 years now. its mostly ford A & T stuff, and lots of early brass car stuff too. it used to be a big deal but the high fuel prices a few years back cut off some of the long distance vendors, and it never seemed to recover. i'll be there....opps! jim beat me to it!
Thank You for the post ... The Family has decided to continue putting on the meet after this year but there was a big push to have as much turnout as possible when folks thought this was the last year. I am driving from Miami, Florida and timing my transport schedule so I can attend. Jim
Thanks for the clarification. The first google hit is some other spring and fall swap meet in Chickasha. I'm closer than Florida, so maybe we can get this on the calendar.
Everything is going down hill, especially for me in Muskogee, Oklahoma! I see it everyday! But, then I do live on top of the highest hill in Muskogee county! Bones
the pre 45 cut IS the reason to go. no chinese tools, no lawn mowers/ jet skies/ kids bicycles, or rusty camaro parts. every booth is worth looking in, you dont walk past any
Actually it was always a prewar meet first and the latter Muscle car shit Chevy stuff got another meet because. Lots of 60 year plus swap meets are dying out but for those that like a gathering of old friends....some swap meets continue. There is in Texas a "buying out" of old established swap meets....that may or may not make it.......
Duncan and Norman are both the same weekend. You drive though Chickasha to get to either one from the other. I doubt I would bother stopping on the way through.
