We put the bed on to check a few things so I left this for the last pic tonight. Hope y'all are enjoying this fun build as much as we are.

 

You bet we do! It's nice to see how you plan forward at the early stages and avoid unnecessary hassle later on. Professional approach all around.

Need a twin truck to run gasser class

 

LOL I have been doing it a long time (since 1975). I think I have made every mistake there was to make over the years. That's what caused me to learn a few hours of planning is better than doing it twice or screwing up the job by adding unnecessary bars or brackets.

 

What's an early bird gasser.

It's original steel, we are building it for SEGA B/Gas. I'm going to try and find time to do a build thread on it also.

Most every piece of equipment in my shop is at least 25 years old even my welder. Most of my machine equipment is over 70 years old. I'm 60 LOL.

 

Are you going to make this a tailgate dragger like the early days or use some of them 10 foot long wheelie bars?

 

Tail gate dragger, I'm trying to build it as close to the mid 60's era as I can.

 

Magnesium sparklers would bring them back from the Coke shack real quick!
Not sure if it would please the track owner though.

Didn't get to do much in the last several days. I did get a little done on the lower part of the turn brake.
Since I don't have a clue what the ratio needs to be on it I made it adjustable with three holes. The top hole will be 7.33 to 1, The middle hole is 5.5 to 1, The bottom hole will be 4.4 to 1. I have them one inch apart. I feel stupid not knowing this but it's a mystery because I'm using a cable system to operate the parking brake for a turn brake. Most wheel standers have double calipers but this one is on a budget and I think this set up will work fine no faster than it's going to run.

 

Maybe in the 80’s but not in 67

 

I Have it tacked together because I'm still not sure if I have the ratio in range. I don't want it to touchy or to hard to work. I left extra on the bottom to make another hole if needed. That's all for tonight.

 

Trying to understand brake use. Push away from your knee tightens right cable & brake & turns right. Pull towards your knee & reverse go to left. This correct??? Be sure to leave room by knee for lever to go left.

 

Yea I use to do a little airplane flying in old stick controlled ultralight planes so I set it up the same way the planes were. Right for right and left for left it just seems natural to me. I have it offset to the passenger side to make sure I have room.

 

If you use two master cylinders and the stock wheel cylinders/brakes I think you will get better feel when applying.

 

The stock calipers will be my primary brakes. The parking brake side of the system will be my turn brakes. This way no extra expense. I don't think it will take much brake pressure to turn it. I have mechanical turn brakes on my tractor and it will turn on a dime with a plow in the ground.

 

How quick is that tractor? Enjoying your build.

LOL my tractor might out run the wheel stander. I'm just planning a mild 454 for power. Maybe 450 HP.

 

Moving that brake lever right & left does not seem like put much pressure on e-brake cable. I was expecting 2 levers , 1 for each side, pull back to tighten e-brake cable. Understand you flying experience & hope they work as you plan. Looking forward to those first test drives in large open place. Great build, thank you for taking us along.
