Technical What did you do today?

Figured out why my '49 wouldn't start....no fuel from the pump, also found out that it works better if there is fuel in the tank! DUH! So when was the last time you ran out of gas in the garage? And yeah, I do need an new gauge...

Installed the backup light switch that "doesn't exist" for my Galaxie... it's hidden in the Thunderbird catalog.... one more step in "it will pass inspection if we had it" for the old girl

 

Drove the coupe today with the windshield pushed out and driver door window down. Nothing like 50 degree air in your face after a Sunday afternoon nap!!………...

 

Cut the rivet heads off to remove what’s left of whatever was on these.



Next is getting the old paint and rust blasted off, and some repairs and modifications to make them fit.

Cleaned and organized the tool boxes in the downstairs garage and put my seldom used tools such as front end tools, pullers, vacuum pumps etc in the box I inherited from my Wife’s Grandpa. Also stuck all my metric stuff over there to keep from getting them mixed in with my real tools.

Was finally able to get up and go out for awhile,still not feeling good enough to go out in the garage but was working on the model table some. Tried drinking a couple beers and they did not taste good so if beers do not taste good I am really sick.

 

I pulled the gauge panel out of the Henry J, pulled the gauges out, traced around them for some posterboard templates so I can start laying out a new orientation. The gauges touched each other in the old panel, I want to keep the speaker grill so it's quickly becoming challenging to center anything on the steering column and get them to fit in the allotted space.

February 24th 2020 After soaking the dissembled brake and clutch pedal assembly in Oileater a few days, "basting" the parts on occasion, I pulled them out of the soup to dry off and paint. Some items also did a session in the Evapo-Rust bath.

Spent the weekend moving my bud Nathan into his new house and shop. He has been gracious enough to offer space to do the safety upgrades and rust repair on the Shaker for this racing season.

 

Love that car.

Finally got two days in the shop! I love my job transporting everybody elses' rides all over the country,but spring is almost here & the 64 GP restoration is so close to being done I am getting excited to drive it. Finished restoring the dash & console. Tomorrow (God willing) I will start putting the new interior in!

February 25th 2020 PRE Paint prepped and gave brake and clutch pedal parts two coats of Eastwood's Extreme Chassis Black paint. Re-assembled the brake and clutch pedal parts, with assembly lube and new fasteners if I could find them in my disorganized collection of nuts and bolts. This will now go in a storage box to await its turn to be re-installed on the truck down the road. Beer of the day was River Horse Brewing Co's Special Ale, an American Amber.

 

Painted the heads and water pump

 

Installed the fire bottles after inspection; good for another 2 years. May is just around the corner.

 

I just spent 2-hours in the dentist chair, getting a shattered molar locked down.

Now, back to the office.

 

Tightened everything up and fixed the generator on this so it charges again. (Mildly OT but hey, it's a creation of my garage, and the frame and engine design date to <'65!).

Made a shelf/table to hold my fridge.

 

had a good day. I mixed primer while my dad taught my son how to spray.

 

Pressed some louvers and finished up 90% of my hood .

February 26th 2020 Okay, got all the stuff off the cab I'm taking off. Anything left will be masked during painting. Time to see if my new Eastwood gadget lives up to expectations. Spent five minutes with the Contour SCT Surface Conditioning Tool on the passenger side cowl panel to get a feel for it. The 120 grit roll that it ships with made fast work with little dust in the air. At full speed it doesn't throw me around. I'm gonna miss the pinstripes by "Sir James".

February 27th 2020 Took the brake rod swing arm assembly apart and all the parts either received Oileater or Evapo-Rust treatments or both, Oileater first. This is the second of the three components making up the brake and clutch linkages. A rod connects to the top of the swing arm and to the brake pedal and the master cylinder push rod connects to the bottom of the swing arm. The rod between pedal and swing arm also activates the brake light switch.
