I can't find a reference on the 'net, but Hudson, in the late 'teens, early 20's, advertised a "Silent Six".

Engines of the day generally had no air cleaners, and there was an audible "hiss" at idle. Hudson engineers, in conjunction with Detroit Lubricator (carburetor) engineers, found by using an variable air intake in the shape of an inverted isosceles triangle, would minimize, even eliminate the hiss. The carburetor was a large copy of the principles used by the British S.U. carb.

I was always partial to "Advance Design". I can only imagine how many angry people there were in 1947 because the windshield didn't crank out at the bottom and instead gave way to that new fangled cowl vent.

I like Mopar model names of '60s. Duster, Roadrunner and so on. With adequate graphics.

Trucks had some neat names also, where even the urban dweller could have a small piece of the Wild West.
Apache, Ranger, Prospector, Explorer, Honcho, El Camino and Ranchero are a few.

How about names for camshafts? Crane had the Econo-Power, Fireball and Ram Sonic, Lunati has the BareBones, Voodoo and Bootlegger, but maybe Isky was the most prolific with Mile-A-Mor, the 5 Cycle Hyperbolic Crossflow 7000, Poly-dyne and more.

 

Lol the only car you could park in the projects, running, with the door open, and nobody would steal it lol

 

I own one, acquired as part of another purchase. I never did intend to use it, so now it is a display.
There would be a problem using it today, because the toilette paper rolls are not wound tight enough to be an effective filter media. It would probably channel in less than 15 minutes.
I have a couple of Amsoil element type bypass filters, and they used a proper filter element. It was a very effective filter, but the filter elements are no longer available, because Amsoil switched to a spin on bypass filter system.
I have another by pass filter curiosity, that uses cotton waste as the filtering media. This filter actually has a 110V heating element as part of the filter. I don't know what the theory was regarding the heater.
