This guy down the road from us owns a mini golf course and always seems to have some old car in the parking lot. Well I couldn't help myself but I had to stop and take a pic IMG_20200307_151026183.jpeg

Not a great pic, but it’s what I saw! Was pretty cool - a dad and his boy gassing up. [IMG]

Spotted this Monday (I know, I’m a day late)

Dodge, Ford, GMC and International trucks and panel vans. Don’t know anything about them and can’t tell if they are for sale but they are cool.

The city has given artists’ colorful murals, creative freedom in design for city improvement. By submitting the art and getting approval, it shows the “arts” of the local area.

    Hello,

Last Friday, before the last mandatory “locked in place” order was given, I had to get my car smog checked. (The DMV waits for no one…) The drive was strange as a lot of places were closed. But, the mechanic said that auto repair places are considered essential. (For emergencies, transportation and stuff.) The body shops next door were pumping out repairs and continuing business as usual. The smog check guy, I have known for 9 years and does a good business for such a small shop. He has floor rollers for the old cars and trucks.

But his computerized modern system tested and rolled my car out in less than 10 minutes. One to one exposure using “social distancing” (he was staying at least 6 feet away the whole time…) and even an offer of an antibacterial wipe, to wipe off my hands after signing the work order for the DMV and his invoice.

I was a happy camper driving back home. (minimal exposure with minimal people and social distancing...) But, as I drove around the corner from his shop, a huge wall mural popped up as clear as day. Since there were no cars parked on the street leading to the shop, the mural just stood out. Wow, what a difference.

    Jnaki

There on the wall of the old wrecking yard, now a storage facility, was this very cool mural showing the local beach scene and a classic woody parked in front. Los Molinos means “the windmills” in Spanish. There may have been windmills back in the horse drawn, early California days, as it sits at the base of a high plateau and the coastal winds whip around the tall cliffs with a vengeance.

“San Clemente Auto Wrecking commissioned Andriana Goud, a local artist, to paint the mural, the work took two weeks. The business straddles the corner of Calle de los Molinos and Avenida de la Estrella. The mural is on the Los Molinos side.”

It is usually hidden by the number of cars, old and modern, that park in front of the mural. If an RV or big truck parks there, it becomes really hidden. But, in these odd ball times, the street was virtually empty and it popped out like a welcoming sign to the whole industrial area. Across (and up) the street, is the place locals call the “Surf Ghetto.” And, I am sure that gives off bad vibes to all of the other businesses in the whole area.

There happen to be some strange things one normally just passes by when we were all out and about on a daily basis. Now, it is deserted and things just get clearer.

  27. Sorry no pics, but I took a ride in the old heap yesterday and passed a T bucket, and saw an RPU and '63 T-Bird on car lots. Don't think they were for sale, but the business were closed for the day.

  29. About a '52 or '53 Willys Aero Lark, not the top-of-the-line (Ace or Eagle would be tops). I'd love to have another one with an F-head 161 Hurricane engine and overdrive.
