Projects Updated 4/20/21- My 1952 Plymouth chopped, and just brought home a Hemi

The thing I'll be watching is how the trim under the rear window lays after the chop... it stands straight up before-hand. With the rear of the top leaned forward, the trim may have to be modified to fit flat against the new angle. Time will tell...

 

You are correct about that Jacksmith. My window on the Dodge is more upright then most chops and most likely I will need to make that belt trim if I want to use it. Which also means making the rest of the belt trim as well lol. The joys of building a custom. Change one thing. Change it all

Ahhh... the infamous "point of no return"...

 

Thank you sir being my first chop I am still trying to work things out. Do you think that it is enough off or should it go more? I kind of like it as is, to me it is enough to improve the looks without going out of proportion.

I wouldn't take any more off the top. Profile look purrfect.

Three inches makes the profile of the car so much better, before it loooked top heavy. Good choice. Some times it only a little change to make a car look right.

 

I've always wanted to chop mine... Maybe I'll wait to see how yours turns out. I'm not as brave as I used to be!

 

I hear that. I originally was going to go 4 or 4 1/2 but after talking to the guy helping me and Torchie I am content with the 3 inches and actually think it looks pretty damn good.

Hopefully it goes well LOL. If it wasn't for the guys helping by telling me how to do things and explain them to me I'd be lost. I can not explain how awesome it is that strangers would take the time and help me with my project.

Made some progress today on the Plymouth. Not perfect and a ways to go but I think it is looking good.

The fact that you're nervous is good. I worried every step of the way on my first chop and it came out great. It's over-confident guys who think they're smart who ruin stuff.

 

Very nice , you're on the right track. The profile is just right. But PLEASE lose that visor. NO respectable custom ever had a visor, it just spoils the lines.

 

I had a car like yours years ago. I thought it was an ugly duckling. However, you're turning it into a swan. Congratulations.

 

Well all my grandfather's customs and my uncles customs always had skirts and visors and they've been building since the 50s lol. I like the visor if it flows right. I'm going to see if I can make this one flow right and keep the visor. If it doesn't look right I'll take it off.

 

Well so far I haven't made any big mistakes. With a lot of advice and planning it is coming around.

Thank you. I have always like this car but the roof did bother me. Luckily it seems to be coming around and heading in the right direction.
