did anyone ever race an Edsel? I don't recall ever seeing any. They are the same as a Ford or Merc, so why not?

If you had access to something like google, you could search and find plenty of pictures of old Edsel race cars. Especially demo derby :)

Nope, never happened. Just don't tell Bill Stroppe.... I guess he ran out of Broncos to run in Baja....

How about some modern Edsel on Edsel Action.

The black 1959 claims to be the World's Fastest Edsel. Charlie Robinson built the 410 MEL powered car. It runs deep into the 11's.

there was a hotrod Edsel in street rodder magazine years ago... had the cool grill and a narrowed nose...
I made one from hotwheels but so small it looses detail and looked like any hotrod...
any car mag archivists out there ?

  5. one of the few vehicles ive never owned. never owned a Edsel. never seen one drag raced. My uncle Morrie bought a new one in 1960. it was a lemon. Spent more time in the shop than his place for the first 6 months by 20,000 miles both the engine and trans where shot. He sold it to the junkyard. And bought a used 53 merc 4 door with a flathead 8. He loved the Merc.

  9. G'day, My neighbor was building an Edsel drag car to go racing with us. He had three cars at the time. He had an original survivor convertible, an 2 door coupe, and a 2 door sedan. He was turning the sedan into the drag car and was pretty into getting it done. Then his wife passed from cancer and one day all three cars were gone. He hasn't touched a car since. I should have taken pictures but they were Fords.

Edsels are not Fords so you have probably would have been ok with taking the picture.

  11. Back in the sixties I remember reading in Popular Hot Rodding of an Edsel that was an E/Stock record holder.

  12. Here's one I spotted the other day. I had to stop and take some pictures. 20191001_224425.jpeg 20191001_224402.jpeg

No pictures but about 15 years ago when I was in Burlington IA visiting a friend I went with her to her brothers birthday party. There was flooding and bridges were closed so the party was held at a friend of her brothers, during the evening I found that the friend had a 58 Edsel two door (black) that had been a prize of some kind when it was new (sorry, I'm old and don't remember the details) and the winner eventually gave it to the fellow that currently owned it. After he got it he did drag race it, even had a driveshaft hoop on it. He took it to Edsel shows and the "experts" couldn't figure why the factory put a driveshaft hoop on the car:) I wonder if he still has it? The girl was less enamored of me than I was of the car:)

  19. Some oval track cars.

The first two are very good-looking short track late models.

  23. No, and after looking close, he probably wasn't racing. I'd guess it had an FE in it, though.
I just saved it from the BSD FE Reunion coverage, about two years ago.

Back in 66 a friend of mine had a 410 CI 2dr standard shift 59 Edsel that ran pretty good...He never had much trouble with it and he ran the wheels off it....

According to the records I'm able to find, there was only one Edsel that ran in NASCAR's top division-called Grand National. In the 1959 Dayton 500 Paul Bass ran a 1958 Edsel convertible in the race.DNF with engine issues.Only one blurry image of this car seems to exist, model builders and historians would love to find more photos of it!It was one of 20 convertibles in that race.I've heard rumors of 2 other Edsels that ran NASCAR ,but as yet haven't found anything

I'd love to have that Edsel Roundup. I waited and waited for one to come up for sale, gave up and settled for a Villager instead. With only 900 or so produced I could still be waiting years later.

Now if you could just find me a photo of Tom Nundy's 1957 Nash, the last Nash to be entered in NASCAR[State Line Speedway,1958]that would be great!!!

There is a guy locally here that used to race late model Fords at our local dirt track. After the track closed, he pulled the drive train out of his last race car and stuffed it into a 58 2 door Edsel. Its his summer driver. I don't think he races it, but it sure sounds healthy when he rumbles into the local cruise ins. The body was a rust free western car with decent original paint, he didn't do anything with that, but everything under the body shell is pretty much dirt track capable. He was one of the last guys still running Ford power at our local track, and he did pretty well.
Of course, I don't have any pictures. Gene
