Technical Snow White short water pump Alternator mounting

How can I bend 1/4" in my home shop? Will it bend in the vise with a pipe wrench? I have press brake type tool I use in my vise.

 

It's a short water pump assembly. 1.75" shorter than stock. Uses a custom mounting plate with an Opel water pump.

 

I tried one of those fuel restrictors you have in the pictures. At 90 my engine was running lean. Way too lean, I thought the engine had died. Imagine what thats doing to your pistons

 

At 90 ? You mean MPH ? I'll never see that speed, never. I'm running an electric fuel pump whose output psi exceeds my float valves ability. Not by a lot just enough slowly overfill the bowls at idle.

 

It will bend by hand, if you put the end in a vise. I just bent a 180 degree bend into a 1 x 1/4" aluminum strap last week, but I bent it around a short piece of pipe. Put the bends near the ends. You only need a single strap for a brace.

 

Can I point out your fan is too far away from the rad to be effective.

 

Well, you just did, didn't you . Yeah,I know. I've got some spacers to play with plus I plan to make a shroud. Once all parts are in their final positions I'll work on that.

 

What did you use for a fan and spacer? The Opel pump has a weird bolt pattern. I'm running an electric fan now but would like to go with a mechanical fan for tradition sake. BTW ,I made my alternator bracket too rather than buy theirs.

 

Thats my reason as well. I bought a 16 or 17" fan from Summit for $40 I think. Couldn't fit much bigger. I'll check tomorrow and post. The spacer has open slots. Will post that too.

 

The fan is 15". The spacer is 1".

 

Thanks, Any chance you have Summits part # for the fan. When I was originally looking I couldn't find a fan to fit the Opel water pump pattern. In the pics above it looks like homemade spacers or thick washers??

It might be a little late now but as an idea here is a pic of how I beefed up my alternator mount. I have the equivalent aussie version of the snow white set up using a mini alternator from California alternators mounted on the left head.

As you pointed out the left bank is further back than the right so it gives you more space and moves the alternator back a bit. The pic is not the greatest (cell phone) but essentially it is a triangulated piece of flat steel with a tab that bolts to an existing mounting hole on the head (closest to the water pump) and a piece of tube welded on the bottom to support / space the main mounting bolt
