Was this car at the Nat's North Kalamazoo last Sept? I parked next to one very similar, and talked to the owner.

If it was I didn't see it. Was it parked by your roadster near the swap meet.

Yes. Member 42 Merc usually parks in that spot but was out of town with his Cad powered '40. The owner is a friend of Mercs and took his spot.

Now that I think about it that was my 40 . 42 Merc usually parks there but he was at the hot rod Hill climb in Colorado. That 40 came out of Pennsylvania where it had been sitting in a garage for years. That one is also chopped mine is not. Here's an older picture of my 40. IMG_20200127_184628.jpg

Hey Stray Kat. What's the story on the white chopped and channeled 40? Looks a lot like the Fred Cain 40. Lucas

Right you are about the drip rails, Mark. "Back in the day" when these customs were used as daily drivers, "no drip rails" indicated a West Coast car (since little rain) and drip rails were a hallmark of East Coast customs. The Fred Cain "dripless" coupe was built in Massachusetts, so the above differentiation is not absolutely valid.
I think it's sectioned (rear fenders have been visually raised and front fenders too and hood is sectioned more than mine) and chopped (looks like late 40s, early 50s since the rear quarter windows appear "longer" and also channeled since running boards eliminated with no rocker panels - bottom of door is +/- level with bottom of chassis. So: chopped, channeled and sectioned - a perfect trifecta. Any idea of its whereabouts? Putting out an APB - BOLO.

Thank you Billy for your kind words and all the other folks on the HAMB who commented on the picture. I am sad to report my wife of almost 54 years, my copilot in life was called home to God on January 11th. I take solace in the fact she is in a better place, having fought a battle with dementia for a decade.

So sorry for your loss olcurmudgeon. As you say she was called home and no longer surfers from the awful disease. Knowing you have suffered along with her I wish you peace and recovery so that you can engage in and enjoy the rest of your life.

I am sincerely sorry for your loss but with a reminder that we don't grieve as those without hope. As you said, she was called home to God, no more suffering. What a happy reunion awaits us.

  28. What Arkie said. What a happy reunion awaits us. May Good fill the emptiness you feel with His love.
