Hot Rods 65,000.00 What would you buy?

Out there somewhere, some fella is driving my 2020 GMC Sierra crew cab pickup right now.


Of course, I won't be the actual owner for another 10 or 12 years. Hope he takes care of it til then.

 

Hell I got one that I could probably let you have for 65,000.00 better yet I would even throw in the rest of the ones I have and make it 50,000.00 because they are not signed ....

Love all of those. My autobody tech instructor had the Devil w/ a Hammer print hanging up in the shop, I could stare at it forever.

 

Since the days when we had our Recycling yard, my partners and I have bought and owned several rebuildable vehicles. While visiting Family in Florida I have been driving a van we did years ago for my Daughter and her Family. It is starting to look like hell and now has a ton of miles but still runs like a swiss watch. Back home I have had a few later model salvage Pickup Trucks. A couple years ago I also built a damaged late model Camaro into a one of a kind Custom Wagon I call the Nomaro. I also currently have a low mileage daily driver Pickup that the insurance company totaled for damage to the right rear bed side, hood and grille area. They were going to replace the entire box on the truck as well as any part that had a scratch or minor dent. We were able to pull the dent in the bed side, replace some damaged plastic pieces and paint the repaired areas. I have less than $1000 into replacement parts and with the price I paid at auction less than $10,000 into a vehicle that would still sell between $17,000 to $20,000.
Checking salvage vehicles out before buying them is key in making sure there are no hidden surprises and you can handle the necessary repairs.

 

I would buy a 27t roadster on a model a frame channeled just enough to cover the frame by the body. Then I would put in a quick change rear. 4” drop axle and a 371 olds j2 and a Lasale trans. And I would paint it black a original for color

I already have 2 vehicles and my wife has another one so I guess I'd buy an annuity or some other safe investment.
I'm retired with just enough income to have a few frog skins leftover at the end of the month to put into the motor pool. So another couple dozen of the bullfrog skins every month, not those tadpoles, and I could be acting all haughty like the folks on the other side of the tracks.

 

Shack in central Florida so I could hit either coast whenever I need a beach fix.

 

Yea but aluminum repairs are significantly more expensive over repairs on the steel body

I probably would make some upgrades to a couple of my rides and place one in Michigan and one in Florida at my kids homes so I could just fly in for visits and always have a car there.

 

I'd buy 50 49 to 53 Plymouth's, put SB engines and trans's in them and sell them for $15000 each and wind up with $750,000.00 less expenses, say $500,000 in my pocket. Woo Hoo, lets start a Mopar factory. JW

 

$65,000, What would I buy? Probably a lot of home improvements and repairs that I have put off so I could spend the money on project cars!

 

I would finish outfitting and buttoning up my shop, finish my two '31s and be happy.

I'd be able to build my 58 impala and finish a couple other cars... I never saw the point in buying or leasing new vehicles.

 

Get a nice Jalopy of your choice and drive it when the roads are not salt ridden. Get a one way ticket to a non rust belt state and buy a winter beater 4 x 4 that should last you a good 6 years before the salt gods take it. You should have money left over.

 

Ahhhhh, one of my favorite fantasys. I'd prolly have a giant oak tree removed and build a garage extension. Then, I'd take the rest to get some bodywork, interior and A/C for my coupe. Or maybe just buy a nice 40 coupe with A/C.
No, wait! What I really REALLY want is for my old buddy, Tracy [Recovery Room] to put a killer interior in my coupe and he ain't cheap.

 

No doubt in my mind I would add another 20K and buy a steel 33 Willys

 

For 65K your not getting very much of a truck. (little f150 maybe) what are you gonna haul with that, Your Groceries? LOL. The New F450's are 81K Then if you finance it you will pay another 12K in finance fees. My father in law bought one in 2017 and the cheaply made mostly in china piece of shit burned up in his driveway do to the the block heater. Then he turned around and bought another one a few months ago. For me NO WAY! I would rather own 5 or 6 hotrods that may go up in value over time than a 80K pickup that is losing value everyday. But only thing I can figure is I must be different than everyone else as I see a bunch of them running up and down the roads daily. It's funny to me how guys will say they can not afford a 32 coupe or a 41 willys, but will be driving a 65K or more pickup.

 

I would buy 26 $2500.00 project cars that I will never finish...….

 

65K ' (if some how it was disposable cash), would get me more of what I wish my Ford could be. This will come as a surprise to many here, it would go along way in putting in a solid "I" beam axle and all the trim'ns under my ford. There'd probably be enough left over for a complete rebuild of the 331 also.

 

I guess this group is trying to figure out which one of them gets the 65,000 ........not sure of the method that they are using to determine the winner...
Maybe thats the 64,000 question?

at this stage in my life, I'd take the 65k and buy/build an Easy Eagle 1 biplane. Already got the tools and building to hangar it during the buildup, and enough flat acerage for landings and take offs. Even have the free time for daily lessons to get me to solo quicker. Caught the bug bad after an eticket ride in a Pitts. Hmm... maybe if I.....

 

I’d buy something with a 1000 hp, 0-60 in 3 seconds, an 8:1 final drive ratio that puts 11,500 of torque to the tires in first gear.

 

A friend of mine started building a bi-plane years ago in the loft of his shop, I think he got as far as framing up the fuselage and possibly some of the wings and that was it...it's still there.
I think its designed after a Pitts but its classified a ultralight, what ever it was you didn't need a pilots license to fly it ...of coarse that was probably 15 years ago.

'59 Buick hardtop. Or maybe finish the '41 and '60 Fords that are torn apart in the shop.

 

OK Larry, I would beef up the drive train in the 64 Chevelle to handle one of the new W engine aluminum block tunnel rammed 409s that would actually be a 509 build a sorta kinda Malcom Durham Z-11 engine Clone.

While dreaming Step 2 would be race Salty and blow his doors off again .

Since its a dream there would be enough cash left over for Step 3, A aluminum raised cam Dart block with A.F.R. 245 heads/ shaft rocker system to replace the stock 400 cast block in Tickety Boo.

If I didn't wake up yet, Step 4 Go to Canada to hunt down and race the Power Shifter in the other Shaker
