1964 bought my Willys from a classmate for $75, Sophomore in HS, saved all summer to raise the money. Still have it. Never took any before photos before I started hacking on it.
1969 and my first car..'64 Impala 2 door hardtop (very important wasn't a 2 door sedan or a 4 door sedan, I had my image to look out for. Smoked like a diesel truck!
My first car was a black '57 Chevy 2 door hardtop. Nice old car in 1964 and gave $800 for it. It was just an old car then and is on top of the list of cars that I wish I still had. I sold it in 1966 when I got drafted and never saw it again.
My first car was a 1969 Cuda 340 fastback. All black in and out with flat black racing stripes. No AC and with the big rear window it could get hot. Still remember the funny little hood scoops and the great exhaust sound it made. I still have some 35mm negatives of that car that I should get scanned. First year of the "Cuda" and they changed the body style for '70, pretty rare car.
1974,Age 15 bought a 1964 Impala SS 327 auto. Wanted a ‘68 Impala SS 396 4-speed but the old man nixed that.
My first car was a 1968 dodge dart gt hard top. Got it at the age of 15, it had a 225 slant six. When i turned 17 we took it off the road and pulled the motor tranny and rearend. Changed out the k member and tortion bars put in a modified small black k member and fit in a 383 magnum balanced and blue printed with alittle over 500 horses! Installed a 727 built tranny and a 83/4 posi rearend with 323 gears . Back on the road at 18. The car looked good but need alittle work on the lower quarter. Nothing major. So I bought new quarter panels and scheduled the Body work about two hours away from my house. The day came to get it there and we left out I was driving my dart my dad was hauling the quarter panels in his truck and my mom and girlfriend (wife now) was in another rig behind dad. To make a long story short the rear wheel and tire came off lodged side ways behind the low quater panel and rolled the car. It came to a stop on its top. Dad had it hauled be home. It eventually got used with another 69 dart body to make one car. Then traded to my brother. Can't even remember what for.
Mine was a POS ‘69 Chevelle. Bought it for $350 in 1976, put $1,100 into it over a couple years, sold it to a junkyard for $65; the same junkyard I bought the SBC double bump heads from for a lot more (before the 3-angle valve job!). I considered the price difference tuition.
1928 Tudor Ford, Bought from nabor across the street, $10.00 62 years ago. still love those '28/ '29's ---- had over 12 and tudors are my favorites.. had coupes, roadsters, and roadster pickups, regular pickups, still like tudors --- one in my carport today.. "Happy is the man who leaves a car function, with the keys to the car he loves BEST, in his pocket..."
'53 Ford Mainline. Paid $35 for it. Had a rebuilt Flathead from Sears, '54 DeSoto grille, Olds tailights, '56 Ford wheel covers, de-chromed hood and deck. Drove it to HS for a couple of years, then got this '64 Galaxie...............Don.
...learned to drive in my dad's 48 Fleetline, my first car (1964) was this 54 Chevy,( $50)...after that I started buying older cars...lol
'53 Hudson Hornet, Twin H power (2carbs), 308 CI flathead 6, 4 speed hydro. Surprised more than one newer V-8 owner.
My first car was a 1955 Mercury Monterey paid $100 for it that I saved by mowing grass, shoveling snow or doing whatever I could to earn money. It was a 2 door hardtop, Chartreuse with a white top had a rip roaring rompin stompin $hit kicking 292, auto. Drove it to get my drivers license. Had to roll down the back windows cause they both were full of hot rod decals and Dragway 42 stickers! Had wide whitewall tires with black rims and scavenger pipes. Interior was perfect, not a hole or tear, clock even worked!! Sure had a lot of fun cruisin' around with my buddies.
1967 I was 15-3/4 Bought a near mint 1953 Chevy Bel-Air 2 dr. Ht. (exactly like the one below) for $25 and drove it in high school. Bought it off my girlfriend's older brother, who had just replaced it (Grandma's car) with a '57 Chevy convert. He had gotten a couple speeding tickets with the 57 and needed some quick $. Funny thing is I only had $20, so I had to give him 5 silver dollars from my coin collection. My Dad WAS PISSED that I bought a car...but after he looked over good (28,000 original miles), he thought I was a pretty smart kid

For my fourteenth birthday my Uncle gave me his rough 1953 Pontiac convertible with no title since it wasn't paid off. I quickly found a near mint 1954 Pontiac 2 door hardtop with a cracked block. Motor was an easy swap, but too young to drive. Licensed an ready to drive I wanted a 1957 T-Bird but couldn't swing the price. (Really liked a black 57 baby bird at my high school with a lincoln 430 in it. At night while shifting it would throw flames out the tailpipe. Every other weekend it got a new rear end. It would just eat spider gears.) I ended up with a really nice 1957 Ford retractable hardtop. Used to park it showing off with roof 1/2 up! Wish I still had it. Never got a baby bird. My advice to all young men is keep your first car (unless it is "jap scrap") 1 more car I promise, Rex Winter Dry n windy Lubbock TX
Willys36 I really like that, I've owned several 36's. My very 1st car was a 48 Prefect (4dr. Anglia) stocker around 1963 I bought it from an older friend for $30.. It was in a garage in Astoria NY where I kept it until I got kicked out, I traveled by subway to work on it. Then moved it to a garage closer to my house so I could walk to it. Got kicked out of there also. I couldn't bring it home because my parents didn't know about it. wound up calling a junk man to tow it away. Pat
