Event Coverage So, who won the ambr?

Throw back to the late 80's, early 90's street rod billet b.s. Very dissapointing to say the least!

 

The 90s called they want their street rod back! IFS roadster? , Someone is building from boyds coloring book I guess...

 

Is there a year of manufacture range limit in the rule book?
By my calculations a 1932 Ford has won the AMBR 21 times out of 71 years.
By comparison:
21 Model T's (1914-1927) have won (including 1955 tie)
11 Model A's (1928-1931)
7 1933
1 1935 (the only Chevy to ever win)
5 1936 including 1 Packard (the only Packard, and only the 2nd non Ford to win)
1 1937
and 5 custom bodied cars

32's are cool and all but sheesh...

~30% of all winners are one model year, and 91% of all winners are Fords (97% if you remove the custom bodied winners)

I get that they can only judge the cars that enter and all, but I can't believe that there were no other beautiful cars in attendance this year other than Fords... This years top 10 was all Ford and 6 of 10 were 32's (newest was a 34)

Hard to imagine what the judges were thinking. Definitely a street rod not a AMBR type winner.

 

This happens almost every year, Hamb folks not liking the winner. I don't care for the winner either, but it isn't the "America's Most Beautiful, HAMB Friendly, Roadster" award.

The building was full of outstanding cars and always has been. Thanks to all who participated.

 

My inner twelve year old is saying “Cool.”

My crusty older exterior disagrees wholeheartedly.

 

So if the winner has to be a 32 roadster at least make it a red one.

 

And typically to most of us we don't give a crap !
It's ugly regardless of whether it's Hamb friendly or not, and it is most definitely not Americas most beautiful roadster, I don't give a dam if they gave it the title.

Someone please explain to these people including @34Larry that IFS has no place on a fenderless car.

 

I have to admit that there are aspects of the car I like. I thought the paint was well done and looked great, and I'm one of the guys that posted on the "Flames" thread that I'm not a big fan of most flame jobs. This paint job was really good. Also, the engine/intake was eye candy. I realize it's not HAMB material, but as a gear head I appreciate it. Overall this was NOT my choice, if I had a vote it would've gone to the Stokers built 32, that was IMO THE most BEAUTIFUL roadster in the show. It hit all the buttons, checked all the boxes. I loved the engine in the 34, but the rest of the car wasn't as beautiful as the Stokers car. The Track T was also very cool, but again not on the same level as Stokers. And the blue T w/ flathead 6, yeah, that's a cool car, I love the story behind it, the under dog. I love that car.

I worked with a guy that ate raw onions as if they were apples. I guess it all depends what ones definition of taste is.
Personally I was never into the phantom body styling, IFS, lets vertically section the Deuce grille shell for another couple of those valuable show points deal.

 

My opinion about the AMBR winner is that, after he has shown the car at the shows he wants to, he drives it and drives it hard. If he's the kind of guy who pushes it hard enough so that the IRS makes a performance difference, then it's perfect to me. It's a contemporary HOT ROD.

 

When you check out Tom Davisons coverage you realise how ordinary the car is they picked for AMBR, maybe well detailed to score high on points but still ordinary.

I've seen this kind of car being referred to as a "billet rod" on this site.

Beautiful car though!

 

What is needed here is a HAMB trophy, 9 feet tall, for America's most beautiful restored old hot rod. Or car built to look like that. You can require bias ply tires, old carburetors, heck, anything you guys like. That would be an award that fits the narrow perimeters of the HAMB, and its readership. This is a restorers site, more than a hot rod site. I like what the HAMB is about. But, hot rods are a bigger tent than here.
