I don't know how many horsepower they have, but Don seems really happy to have them around.

  19. Rodney Singer and Karol Miller after winning the NHRA Nationals. Karol's blown Lincoln was used in Rodney's chassis. Texan Karol Miller used one of his un blown Lincoln engines in a '56 Ford Fairlane to run 150 at Bonneville in 1961.

Sorry Dean I'm pretty sure the 56 was sitting rotting away by 1961 in Houston. In 1960 Karol had a 1960 Starliner and with 61 borrowed parts off a 61 401 HP engine for that years run at Bonneville. Later he'd also ran a Mustang. He then stopped and went on to raise a family while in the oil exploration business.
Karol used a 312 in 56 against the bigger Chryslers and the he down sized at Bonneville the next year. He added a Lathem blower and I'm pretty sure his last runs with the orange and white Victoria were at Daytona Beach in 1958. I have one of his record sheets he gave me.
My wife and I will be stopping in Texas to see him and his wife in February when we are returning from see our daughter in Florida. He is a true gentleman and we love him dearly.

  22. Thanks Jim, I had forgotten the Starliner. The '56 was earlier. CRS is a bitch.

This brings back great memories of karts in Wichita in 60/61 where we built our kart.
I worked at a Standard station pumping gas,oil changes, lubes all that stuff. The owner loved karting and raced them with us. Ours was a space frame made out of 1/2" black pipe, power products (sears) 2 stroke. We did alright and had great fun. Boss at the Standard built a triple engine Mac 10 powered kart, crazy fast.:eek: Never forget it.

From that look on Ole Richard's face I don't think his mind is on race cars anymore. :D

Before Jim Nelson teamed up with dode Martin, he and Dick Dunham, another Oilers member, raced together. Here they accept a trophy from the trophy queen at San Diego's Paradise Mesa dragstrip.
