Technical What did you do today?

Continued work on hidden gun room.

 

Spent a bunch of time reading the 2020 NHRA rule book.

 

Scored some repop fenders radiator and a set of wheels for the 34 yesterday.

 

Loaded Brenda & our daughter up in the wagon for the hour ride to the annual Chili Party hosted by the grooms in Easley, South Carolina.

This was originally started by Benny Bootel back in the early 70's and after he passed away Alan & Joan continued the event, we go every year and we have seen beautiful sunny weather and cold wet weather, including rain, sleet & snow, today was sunny but cold.

There were several different clubs on hand, including the Early Ford V8 Club of America, a couple of Model A clubs, a woodie club and a bunch of hot rods & muscle cars, there was about a hundred people or more and at least 10 different types of chili, from mild to 4 alarm hot.

Cut up a Howell’s sheet metal lower cowl panel because it was to short to fit by a 1/4 inch . Shitty products produce by Howell’s.

 

I attempted to rescue a 6-71, who's previous owner had attempted to set the rotor timing himself.

Nearest I can figure, he accidentally picked up the "shim side", and machined that, instead of the opposite side.

I have an unmodified set of gears in storage. I will go get those tomorrow, and start over. I think I can save this set, but that will be a future project.

 

Continued working with my '37 truck windshield.

January 20th 2020 Evapo-Rust arrived at the Krash Kubicle Friday afternoon. It was set up at the shop and siphoned into the drip pan. Two hours after being submerged, all the rust was gone. It took longer to set up and clean up than than actually clean the metal.

I've said before that there is almost something religious about bare clean metal. Now, I've got to bone up on setting the windshield in the frame with glass setting tape. Years ago, I did a similar op with one of BillyBob's vent windows. I'm hoping the process isn't much different.

 

Made some cab corners and worked on channeling my cab.

 

Went to Ga. and got my new pr oject car.

 

I got my wanna be whizzer running today and went for a shakedown run. Lost a couple of pieces need to reengineer a few things. Then paint

Went into my VAST acquired NOS stuff looking for a Chevy 250 - 6 fuel pump. Instead I have maybe 3 each of Pinto or Vega's....what the heck ! Sill lot's of 50's and 60's stuff I need to list.........

I wrecked my back last night and tonight with lots of sanding and polishing of the old Henry J front runners by hand, I need a power tool of some sort to avoid this grief....ugh

 

Cleaned up my transmission so I can get some paint on it.

Continued to tear away at my '37

January 21st 2020 Got the remainder of the exhaust system off the truck. This thing has been in my way a long time. With the bed off, I could finally see the hanger bolt that was giving me trouble. The entire exhaust system was rusted together and I cut it in half at one point to get the header end off. It was a clean cut and I will be able to splice things together again without much trouble. I'm happy because the combination of the lumpy cam with the Flowmaster muffler makes a wicked sound that many mistake for a V8.

Took the drive shaft out next. Soon as it was unbolted, the universal joint got a strip of duct tape around it, keeping the bearing cups in place and preventing the roller bearings from making their escape.

Deerslayer's tranny is scheduled to come out next. Soon discovered I don't have a wrench that will fit between the battery box and the drain plug so, I stopped long enuf to take out the battery box. Beer of the day was Southern Barrel Brewing Company's Helles Lager.

 

Good investment.

 

Way cool. I'd of given a quarter to have seen that.

 

Got a piece of .025" copper sheet so I can make a jumper for my starter solenoid. Made up a CAD drawing for the part and also a bending fixture. Will wander out to the shop after work.... get the electric heater cranked up in the machine shop area first.

I finally sold my '50 coupe, loaded up and on it's way to Georgia. HRP

 

Finally installed that MSD Capacitor on my el Camino today.. The turn signals stay blinking while in gear with the head lights on...
I noticed this wire and decided to fix it, turns out it supplied all the power to the fuse box.. I pulled it all apart and ran new #10 stranded wire and soldered everything. I have to get a new inline fuse or breaker..

 

Yep it was a hoot. I topped the hill and both pedals fell off, coaster brake dose not work well without pedals

Thanks, today I hit them Flitz and it's polishing wheel/ball chucked into a drill, took them a step further and done enough for me.

Worked on the cab interior of my '37

January 22nd 2020 Was tired of rolling around under the truck and doin' laundry afterwards so I switched to cab disassembly for a change of pace. The wiper motor and hinge enclosure above the windshield has to come off to get at the old windshield hinges and headliner trim, a-pillar trim and door header trim pieces have to be removed for that to happen. Had the items, along with wiper and wiper motor off by the time I turned the lights off in the shop for the night.

 

Went out in my cold shop and machined up a couple of solenoid jumpers. It still took me over 2 hours since it was all set up, changing end mills to drills as I went along. Made up a fixture plate to make things easier. I gave up after 7:30 and my feet were cold. Tonight I'll make up the bending jig.
