Engelhart Performance car show. The fastest 1/16 mile in the Midwest (Rushford Mn.). It's a little narrow to run side by side, but a fantastic show. Fred always manages to have some special cars on display from drag racing history. Some maybe a little too new for this site, but iconic none the less. You never know what you might see there. Looking forward to 2020's show!
Upon some more digging in Petersen I believe the 59 El Camino has Bill Cossey driving. Looks to be bigger than Wiley. I wish Wiley's boys or someone that was close to them like Ed Holman's boys or Jack Davis kids could chime in here.
For all you jr stock fans that need a fix. Check out the new southeast gassers super stock class. Spec 7 inch tire . 4 speed's only. Heads up lbs per cubic inch . More cars are being built and costs are being controlled. Gave up on trying to compete in their gasser classes and bought me a Comet station wagon to give it a go. It's not quite like my old 283-220 hp. 57 Nomad , but it's as close as we are going to get in today's drag racing.
Deep pockets needed to make the late rounds in SEG classes. Cubic dollars always helps. Great fun to watch. Good luck with the Comet. Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
Looks pretty much neck and neck there Tim. A real step back in time, other than the concrete walls. I am Butch/56sedandelivery.
Both were at Dallas Springnationals in 70. That is where Don met Kyle and became friends. Don said he even used Kyle’s shop one year at Indy to swap motors in a Super Stocker he had. He said the delivery was setting in the corner, the victim of NHRA rule changes.
Bowling Green has had concrete walls as long as I can remember and I started racing there when they had rollers to start the push start cars. It had a nail head Buick to power the rollers. Somebody else can tell us when they put in the concrete wall on the spectator side as you can still see parts of the push start lane.
Gunning Brothers Still has the original Grumpy motor. Come to Bowling Green in August and see it run.
Need 5 Amber lights to really get the anticipation / nerves at the line.. Sent from my SM-J320V using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
This 60 Catalina is on display at our local Pontiac Oakland car museum . It was raced in the late 60s and early 70s on the east coast by a gentlemen by the name of J. Eleazer. By the looks of the win decals, he did pretty good with it. Anyone heard of him?
Found these of the Dover site Lots of photos and info https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1960-pontiac-catalina-2/ A dover post it was on ebay in 2011 the second link doesn't work. https://doverdragstrip.com/forums/topic/another-old-dover-warrier-is-discovered-on-e-bay/
LB what are you doing up at 4:46AM ? I just got up and have to face the snow right now. I don't remember that car but it sure is cool. They ran at all the LI NY tracks. Islip was an 1/8 mile. And those are very early Englishtown decals when it first opened it was Madison Township Raceway Park. Pat
Lyn, I don't remember the name or the car but the obituary of Ralph Eleazer (Ralph's Garage) can be found at: https://www.legacy.com/obituaries/app/obituary.aspx?n=ralph-eleazer&pid=163366085&fhid=17089 The history of our corner of the sport of drag racing is filled with the stories of guys such as Ralph who obviously devoted a lot of time, money, and passion to drag racing. We came to the track, we saw a challenge, we didn't always conquer but we had one hell of a good time and derived a lot of satisfaction in the process! The fact that someone recognized the significance of that effort is icing on the cake. Happy New Year, Lyn, c
This is a beautiful time capsule that has survived from the 60's era of S&SS racing. Are there any indication of the classes it may have run?
Pat, I think he ran it in a modified class in NHRA,and a Hot rod class in the other sanctions. One of the records he set was in 1G/HR class.
Thanks Lyn, NY National was a IHRA track and Islip ran its own rules but I recall seeing HR designations. Pat
Yes! Bob Duffy told me to go and see Ralph for a nice Hydramatic for my 63 Pontiac. Super nice fellow. His trans worked great . It didn't belong under the floor of a 63 GP, but such was the deal in local "Stock" racing. You'd needed every trick , and then some to keep up with Dave Lebrun's "stockers"
Formula 1....G/HR. Is dual carb..G/HR...there were Formula 3. 2bbl, Formula 4 was a 4 barrel. Don't remember Formula 2. AHRA used these...then dome of those tracks became IHRA. My pops ran D/HR.. what I liked about the formulas, was it allowed race eer s to change class with carburation...more flexible options to win a class. Class winner s would then face off in Eliminator races based on national records.. Sent from my SM-J320V using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
