The reason that BAT is written in capital letters is that it is an acronym for Bertone Aerodynamica Technica. They were Aerodynamic study cars. The fins were meant to direct air for reduced drag.

  5. Bob was just as nice a guy as his Merc was beautiful. Here's a couple pics of our Mercs at the first KKOA
    Nationals in 1981.
The group shot is Larry Purcell's 41, Me and my 40 Merc, Bob's 40 Merc and Lee Pratt's Buick. Photo by Pat Ganahl. Wichita81a.jpg Wichita81b.jpg

I knew Bob. Council Bluffs is 45 miles from Red Oak. His 40 was almost always by his 50 Merc So Fine. My dad bought lake pipes from him at his shop(Mad Hatter Mufflers) in 1982. Larry`s 41 is high on my list as well as Lees`s Buick. First saw Lee`s in Minnesota in 79 at the Street Rod Nats. Maybe that`s why I put hydraulics on my Caprice(avatar) when I was 17. I have always liked your car as well. Had seen it a few times. Those 4 cars have been in a lot of magazines you posted. Scan0091.jpg Still wanting to see Larry`s 41 some day.

  13. I love that second picture. Taken at the Kansas Coliseum outside of Wichita...
@OG lil E That area on the west side of the arena is where also where the Spectacular was held in 2000. And the Merc/Deuce Reunion in '84. If I remember correctly the grounds are almost completely private owned now. Too bad that's no longer a venue for shows.

  15. Sure is. Those fairgrounds were nice and it's a big facility. The park in Salina is nice, but compared to the Wichita 'grounds it seems very crowded. E

I LOVE this. Reminds me of a 50s serial like "Radar Men from the Moon" the hero would have driven. It's too cool for sure.

  19. Hey thanks! Actually, these are pics from the airport show in Easton a couple months ago. Day 2 of the engine swap job starts tomorrow in the AM.

  22. I plan to get those wheel covers like the ones on the flamed car. For my ride.

  23. I think those are reproduction '57 Plymouth wheel-covers. 81976190_2283178418646953_5497637539940401152_n.jpg 9-2016-1 015.JPG

  24. I guess they don't have the checkers around the perimeter though. I think the '57 Plymouth ones would look great on your car, Scott, and they would continue a Plymouth/ MoPar theme.:)
