Well, so far this year, sold the red one, bought the black one. Moving to Detroit area in April, hopefully a new job too. Plans are to road trip with the family and explore new places. Then onto new hotrod. Hopefully one that I can drag race in. I’ll admit it’s scary. I have a huge network of friends and hot rodders in Phx., and none in Michigan. It’s going to be a big challenge! 9BACD1A7-82C1-4256-8845-ABA24CF7A8DC.jpeg 9DC4BE13-55D1-45CD-8C30-1DC59567A829.jpeg

For me, purchase a vintage tow-vehicle to pull my 37 Ford on a 16' trailer. In spite of weather issues, I really enjoyed the H.A.M.B. drags last year. But I won't make that 12-hour tow again without using a vintage truck with reliable, pulling power.

  6. I made a commitment to get serious and get one of my projects back on the road. It's been almost 5 years since I had a vintage vehicle running, and I needed to kick my own ass and get going.
Currently full steam ahead on the 59 F100. Front and rear axles are currently being rebuilt. (Waiting on bearings).
Engine went to the machine shop today to get gone through. It's getting freshened up and will be swapping to a 2x4 manifold.
Steering box and column are currently out for chrome work.
Body is coming off soon (couple of weeks most likely) to make it easier to do some chassis work. New brake and fuel lines, relocating tank out of the cab.
I expect by spring to have the chassis done and the cab back on. Will wire it up to drive summer of 2020 while metal work gets done on the bed. Plan is to pull the cab fall of 2020 and shoot paint on both the cab and the bed next winter.

  7. As for where I plan on going, I really want to get back to the Hill Climb in Colorado this year. Even if I just fly in for the weekend. May try and make it back to TROG as well now that it's in the fall again if I can finagle the keys to the motorhome away from my parents.
Otherwise, there's a 600 mile round trip run to a camping spot that's planned for next fall. I really want to take the F100 on that trip.

    3. Attend the Hot Rod Reunion

    5. Drag week, either Indy or Norwalk, haven't decided. Norwalk has ice cream but it's twice as far!

Enjoy life, travel some, have checked off most items on my bucket list. I always try to be a better person, continue on with my downsizing, # of cars, some of my equipment, tools, collections, way too much stuff, I am and have been very fortunate. I'm selling off slowly as this is not a fire sale, do not/will not deal with cheap ass people, not going to give up everything, will keep some till my end, then my wife/kids can deal with the vultures.

August 8 to the 14th. I have been talking to folks that have been there and they say the first part is the best, it kinda winds down toward the end. Our plans are to get there the 7 th camp at the “Bend” three miles from the gates. Most hotels 80 miles away are booked somewhat and very expensive. We are going to dry camp with our campers and have side by sides and possibly a Jeep to take to the races. Jeep and/ or motorcycles to go 80 miles into Wendover, Nevada, for car shows and gambling. Everything is subject to change.... except the dates. We have plans for the next two weeks, also, that include Moab , Utah and Crested Butte, Colorado. If you have time, “ Go West, young man! “ Lol

  15. I'll continue to work on my 54 F100 build, and the only two events officially on my calendar right now are the ECTA Standing Mile in Arkansas in April and Bonneville Speed Week in August. We'll be campaigning the Virginia HAMB Special.

  18. Wendover is not 80 miles from Bonneville, it's only about 10 miles on I-80.

Checked my map program, it is 5.6 miles from the bend to the Nugget Hotel and Casino - Just over the state line in Wendover, NV.

Headed west, the map program shows about 64 Miles to the Motel 6 in Wells, NV. Wells has a limited selection of motels.

And the Motel 6 in Elko, NV is about 113 miles. Elko has lots of hotels to chose from.

Headed east, there is a cluster of more upscale motels around the Salt Lake airport, The Super 8 is 112 miles from the bend.

Well , I guess I got bad info! Good! 10 miles is a whole lot better than 80, 5.6 is even better, any day! The news just keeps getting better!

Bones, I see that the Nugget rates for speedweek start at $244 a night, thats like $30,000 canadian, I'm trying to find a cheap teardrop copy for the trip, but I'll be there. My wife would come if I brought my travel trailer....but, no, its a hot rod trip, no wife, she's not a car person.

  26. My plans for this May or June: I am taking my '29 Ford 4-Banger with the '14 (as in 1914) Maxwell Touring car custom and do the Mt Washington Auto Road Hill Climb. Stock tranny, stock clutch, and stock rear end. Balanced engine with a freshly rebuilt 94 from Uncle Max. Average incline 12% steepest section 22%! I'll overfill with oil (not excessively) and just reline the brake shoes when I get down. Just under 8 miles one way, but what a way.

    Hello,

There are plenty of things to do and see. We are road trip enthusiasts. I have loved to drive since the
pre-teenage days. So, it is a natural to want to drive someplace nearby or long distance. We had a nice itinerary planned out last year for a surprise Christmas visit to our family members in St. Louis and Tennessee. But, the weather beat us to death in the previous week in So Cal, so we knew it was heading East, on the week we were planning on leaving. So, another planned trip down the drain.

It was supposed to be a surprise and they do not know we are still planning on that road trip some time down the seasons. St. Louis, OKC, and Nashville in the winter? Maybe another time of the year…? (But, the long ago road trip of the year…West Coast to East Coast was cancelled just outside of St. Louis because of Summer time traffic created by road closures and repairs) A local vendor told us that Summer is the only time the Midwestern states can do repairs and not stop traffic.

Sure, we can fly, but why? Non-stop flights originate from LAX and that place has gotten crazier by the months. The multiple stop flights out of the OC airport are close by, but who wants to stop for an hour or two at each stop? So, since we love driving, we can pick out where we want to go and when. Of course, weather permitting.

    Jnaki

We have always liked the San Juan Islands as a repeat destination. We have been there in different locations, on several trips, over the years. The one we had reserved in Roche Harbor was cancelled due to family medical problems with my wife’s dad. So, that is still on the horizon for this year. Some places should be visited more than others, but with the masses of people doing the same thing, one has to be particular in site selection.

We have been to almost every "likable" spot on the West Coast of California. But, there are always more places to be seen and explored. It is a never-ending place for living, travel, and enjoyment. Especially, on the West Coast of the USA and Canada. Mexico was once a monthly thing for surf trips, but that is out, too. So, our newly acquired REAL IDs sit useless as we try to make up our minds.

NOTE: This virus “thingy” has created a dent in the proceedings. The CDC has stated that “old” folks should stay home and not travel to other areas of the USA or world. DUH! Roche Harbor is on the coast of Washington. As scenic as it is, this year, it is now crossed off of our travel road trips.

It is a good thing we live in a mild climate resort area of So Cal. Even a short drive down the coast or up the coast to the northern county line is enjoyable. Memories abound and those road trips never get old. But, still, we, like most, are cautious in our interactions with traveling.

Gonna do: Buy as much stuff as I can afford.
Gonna go: Less than ever. Retiring from events.
Wanna do: Become a recluse only selling online and telling everyone local bugging me about shit for sale that it’s not for sale.

  29. Maybe they were thinking of Salt Lake City when they said 80 miles.
