All, I am currently running 16 x 5 with a 2 3/4" backspace steel rims with 750-16 Firestones. I am trying to tuck the tires/rims closer into the body due to the rear end being too wide, in my opinion. The question is, has any one put these tires on a 6" or 7" rim ? How do they look ? Photos ? I then could get the additional backspacing I am looking for.. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Jay
Hi. I have not had to do back spacing but the Coker catalog shows the 750/16 use a 5" - 6" wheel width. With that said use 6" and you should not have problems with tire to wheel fit. Are you tubeless or running tubes as that could make a difference on how far you could go? Good luck, Jimmie
Rears are 7:50x16s on 6" rims, fronts are 5:00/5:25x16s on 5" rims. Tires are Firestone Deluxe Champions.
Looks great. I am running the same tires and rims on the front too. Are your rears Vintique series 14 rims ?
The wheels were made by Stockton back in the early 2000s during the build of my '32. The company fell on hard times later, but may still be in business, although their web site is dated 2011. I bought Vintique "64" series chrome wheels for my '40 coupe project a couple years ago and am happy with the chrome and construction quality. I would have gone with Wheelsmith, but they did not offer a stock vented Ford wheel with a single bolt pattern that I need with spider centers.
Hi. That 6" wheel in your photo really gives it a great fat tire look and effect for the rear. I prefer the 4" - 4.5" front wheels with the narrow tires for easier steering but the 5" ones are still great for there. Jimmie
I initially wanted to use original 4 1/2" '40s for the fronts, but gave up because of the poor quality wheels I had purchased or looked at. My original order was 4 1/2"x16s for the fronts, but was told 4 1/2" hoops were no longer available so 5"x16s were built.
