One of my favorite TV shows when I was a kid, 77 Sunset Strip. Admittedly not because of Edd "Kookie" Byrnes, may he rest in peace, but because of Norm's "T"!

 

That bucket was the only reason I watched that show. Didn't everyone want one after that? And RIP, man.

Bourbon Street Beat, 77 Sunset Strip, Adventures in Paradise, to name a few.
Used to sit with my grandpa and watch them all religiously. One time when 77 Sunset Strip was on my grandpa asked if I was fallowing along with the story line, could I keep up with it. I said what's a story line I was just waiting for the T Bucket to show up!

Sadly, I've never got to see a single episode of that program. Always heard about it, but I was just a tot when it was on and have never found any reruns of it. Just last year finally got to see a few episodes of Route 66.

When you drive a truck for a living, you don't get to see much TV, new or old. I've seen stuff on, get interested in it, then find out it was first on 20 or 30 years ago! And I've never seen it, so it would all be new to me!

Well, Gerald Lloyd Kookson the 3rd "Kookie" has departed this realm. RIP, Eddie and Gerald.

 

Me too. I remember at the time all the cool kid wantabees called every one DaddyO. When I was about 9 or 10 I done my best to build a model of the T Bucket from my parts box, it ended up nothing too much like the Kookie car but I had fun any way.

 

P.S Now I have the 77 Sunset Strip song in my head and it won't go away

 

He was too cool! A true legend. You will be missed. The world may change but you'll always have a home here with us. God bless.

I was eight years old and my mother let walk down to the Ford dealer on a Friday
night to see the unveiling of the 1959 Fords at our local dealer, D&M Motors
in Lemont, Illinois. Yeah, the "Glass Wax" and paper was coming off the showroom
window that night. I was in kind of a quandary because I wanted to be able to watch
the debut of 77 Sunset Strip, and the dealer was taking it's sweet time about showing
the cars. I had to run the two miles back home but I got there in time. A few weeks
later I finally asked one of my pals why Kookie kept call "that one guy" (Efrem Zimbalist Jr.)
Dad. "Is he Kookie's dad?". "No man, that's short for Daddy-o." Hell, how was I supposed
to know, I wasn't a beatnik. Edd Byrnes was 87 years old? That's hard to fathom.

I wonder if Kookie and Milner ever crossed paths.

 

In the American Graffiti script, Debbie had a line "I love Eddie (sic) Byrnes" but it was cut.
R.I.P. Edd; guess maybe his health was why he didn't go to the display of the newly restored T-bucket?

 

Before my time, but Grease is my wife's all time favourite movie, and she wishes she had grown up in the 50s/60s.
May he R.I.P.

 

Just the car but never had one. Rest in peace.

i recall reading an interview with "normie-poo" where he talked about how he had to drive the T because it was too much for a "certain actor" to handle...

 

God Bless Ed Byrnes, he and Norm Grabowski rocked the TV.

I tried to get him reunited with the car at it's restoration debut at Pebble Beach last summer. I didn't know if he was still alive or not but after tracking down his son was told he was in good health and available. I was working with Roy Brizio as an unpaid go-between. It didn't materialize but I know Roy was trying to have him reunited with the car at GNRS this month. I am shocked and saddened to hear this news. R.I.P. Kool one.
