I finished a 1950 Chevrolet cluster for a customer in Minnesota. Here's before and after pics. 20200107_074032.jpeg 20200109_091039.jpeg

  2. Firewood its supposed to rain for the next three days. So I went and loaded a big load on my truck. There was a huge cull double oak right on the south fence line. It would naturally fall south and smash the fence. the wind was blowing from the south west. So I notched the 4 ft diameter base and the wind had it leaning in the correct direction. Got about a third of the way thru the back cut and the wind abated and it leaned back and pinched my saw blade. Saw stuck in tree! I waited what seemed like forever and the wind gusted again. So I buzzed it until just a hinge remained. Removed my saw and got away from it. Started sawing up small trees and bushes. That tree held on for over a hour before it finally toppled. Whomp it hit the ground and limbs broke then I seen a dazed red squirrel looking around wondering what happened? I had a 22 and I like to eat squirrel however I seen that one was pretty big. Probably a old tough boar or a pregnant female. So I didn't kill it. That tree fell almost where I wanted it to fall. It knocked a few limbs from a black walnut tree .Close enough anyhow.

Sawed up a stack of firewood so I can move my parts storage trailer over to where the firewood was piled. It's time to move some things around so I can get something done.

Getting ready to head back out to the shop after breakfast when the chrome shop called to let me know my roadster headers are (re)done. I needed to return a battery to Wallymart anyway so I changed clothes and drove to town. The headers look great.
It’s cold and damp in the shop so I’ve been storing my newly chromed roadster parts in the house. Our daughter had a change of college plans so she wants her room back and I’m out a nice storage place. So out to the shop they go. Question: Any suggestions as to what can I put on my parts to protect the brand new chrome? I don’t want to put anything on the headers that I can’t get completely off before firing it up. Think just bagging everything up will do? Got a bunch of dinero invested in this shiny stuff (and I still have a bunch to do)

A little OT but added 2 lights above the rear door on our car trailer. HF on sale.. It does haul the roadster that has the engine on my avatar. Now we can use it with our 1/2 mile dirt car.

  14. Couldn’t stand it...so pulled the heads on the 283 I picked up yesterday to see if any mud dobbers made it in over the last 31 years sitting. Everything looked great inside until I found a nest in #5 cylinder. Looks like it will clean up with a hone though. I’ll pull it all apart and check it all, but pretty clean considering. I’m happy with it for the $200 I paid for a fresh (31 years ago) rebuild. It will make a great motor for my 15 year olds 51 Chevy pickup.

Oh, and had to throw on the cool parts for now...

    Continued tearing down my '37

January 10th 2020 Originally, my plans called for refinishing the bed boards that Tony had made locally from oak but several of them are too far gone to save. Edges are crumbling and, at eye level, the bed undulates like sea swells. I will go with paint on pine this time. I've had it with varnishes and stains. This section is in better shape than most of the bed. Maybe the moisture from my bottle cap collection helped. Beer of the day is Sudwerk Brewing Company's Rye of the Lager.

  17. Up in the attic should do .

  18. Fucking chrome should not be in need of any special protection from sweating, moisture, condensation. Maybe polish up the water spots but it’s supposed to hold off pits, blems and rust for YEARS.

After having .100” milled off the intake elbows to line up with the Nicson cast header flange I was able to finish up the intake/exhaust fit. Now I can move to the fuel line, water rear head to thermostat housing line, and PCV line. 274A74B2-30B7-4892-AFA0-1E86B81ADFF0.jpeg

Replaced the brake hoses on the Galaxie since I was pulling the wheels to get new tires mounted. Previous owners didn't do the car any favors. Wasted almost six hours waiting for tires to get mounted. Hours I could have been working on the car and not polishing the seat of my pants.

  24. The weather liars got it correct. It rained and the wind blew. My wife cooked a turkey. had turkey corn and potatoes. Been feeding the wood stove. And have located a potential buyer for my 428 FE engine.

  25. took advantage of the 65 degree weather and insulated the side walls of the new shop 26x34. took us about 5 hours, now have to concentrate on the ceiling.
